apologies if this has been discussed  previously  , but what's  best for esp  a gun with a mid bead or just the end bead , please no lectures on looking at the  rib  concentrate on the clay only !  if we don't need a mid bead for esp why do manufacturers  make em .  :yell:

Mid beads are useful for seeing your alignment with the rib. So check it, verify the mid bead is covering, or preferably just under the end bead. So then you have confirmed that you have some sort of gun fit sorted. Then, never look at it again and just stare at clays. I.e.  It does have a use for judging the gun, but has no function while shooting.

I personally like a mid bead for the raisins Will stated above, but like he says use it for a quick glance/check only and then eyes on the target

When I shot Beretta's (no mid bead) I found myself in a constant state of dilemma over whether my mount was right or not....for me having a mid bead check as part of my routine really helps get my head in the right place to call for the target.

it is my opinion that if you need to use the bead / beads in order to verify gun fit then your gun does not fit and or your gunmount is inconsistent.

I hear and agree with you, but in my case even though my gun fits well and mount is consistent the fact that I can just double check that all my 'ducks are in a row' before I call pull helps get my head in the right place.

Maybe it's just something I do, but I find it helps as part of the OCD checklist I get to tick off.

Makes sense iggy, belt and braces job, whatever makes you feel more confident is a good thing. ?

I've put a mid bead on in place of the fibre optic Red one on my 690 black. The red distracted my eye trying to focus on the target.

If your gun fit and mount is correct then it won't really matter one bit. Unless it's part of a pre shot routine to premount and calm your head by lining them up

my mate took his end bead out  ( no mid bead )  today at orston  50 bird esp      not good  ,  he soon replaced it for a round of skeet !

A lot of people do this. I tried it for a round on my old 692 and hated it. Made the rib seem twice as wide so had the opposite effect to what was desired ie not looking at the rib so much.
yep, and if comb is quite high I find you get an odd runway effect. I think "for most people" your subconscious sees the bead and if its removed your subconscious looks for some other aid ie the whole rib and one becomes even more aware of it than you were with your itsy witsy bead. Hence p1fanatics opposite effect. Of course like all things in shooting there will be folk who advocate it because it works for them BUT if no bead was a popular thing then manufactures would make the bead an option or there would be a retro fit flush fitting grub screw to blank the hole. Very very few people can shoot without a bead.

BUT,  he probably can not see the beads over the £1 coin  !

I have just had to go and check to see, if my sporter has a mid bead or not (well I have only had it since last December). As it happens it does, I had never noticed !  Whilst the gun cabinet was open, I checked my Winchester Supergrade trap gun too. That has just 1 bead, at the muzzle. I use these guns probably once a week, but I had to go and look as to how many beads (or not) were fitted to them  ?

Mid bead fell out of my A400 at some point over about 400 shots the other weekend, didn't notice till i cleaned it and made no difference at all then or the next week shooting when i knew it wasn't there.

Didn't even cross my mind.
