Recommend me a pocket knife..

Victorinox. I have a few which are all slightly different, but all get used on a regular basis. Loads on Amazon or Go outdoors. I carry one all the time.

My favourite is the 'spartan', it has most things you will ever need, and fits in the hand just nice.

 The 'Huntsman' is probably the biggest you need as they start to feel awkward in the hand, the bigger they get.

Get a knife that suits 'your' needs

The blade is under 3 Inches.   The whole knife closed is 93mm.

I have a Case Hobo knife, really solid and made by craftsmen. the steel blade is superb keeps an edge extremely well. lt comes apart to make a knife, fork and spoon, Fits the hand very comfortably, the only down side l can see is the weight it's heavy, but will last you a lifetime!

Awesome, have ordered latter, thanks.  I love victorinox but wanted something with a slim profile.

The single blade one is very slim - can't comment on the multi blade.  Being Aluminum helps greatly with weight.  The only minor criticism I have for these blades is that there is no lanyard hole.  I do like adding a lanyard to my carry knives as it makes them easier to hold and less easy to lose.

You do need to be careful though.  While you are within the law carrying these knives in public - plod may well not like the look of some of them.  I do try to avoid knives which look 'tactical'.  I prefer 'gentlemen's folders' myself for this reason.

Legal carry, nice grip which is less likely to close on your hands - and offers one handed opening too.  Not quite a gentlemen's folder - but the spyderco look and style is becoming so mainstream now that I do not find (to my eye) that it looks very offensive at all.

Pocket knives are something that nearly everybody down here carries they can be very ornate and nearly every one would get you a jail sentence in the UK ... its a funny old world... down here they are viewed as an essential everyday tool not something you stab someone with. I live in the sticks though Paris or Toulouse may be very different.  Good example of the favourite type below

Highly recommend leatherman multi-tools if your looking for something utilitarian they are expensive but they are super strong and the blades are sharp enough to shave with out of the box and they come with a 25 year warranty so they do stand by their products.

do be careful tho because some of the models do have locking blades which you cant carry.

I have one and love it, but it's locking and too bulky to carry everyday..

best leatherman is the skeletal range, not as bulky as most leatherman. Costly though.

I think if you look closely you will observe there is no " bottle opener " on that knife. There is a cork screw... anybody who knows about fine wines knows the difference

What is a reasonable excuse? I've carried a 3" lock knife with me every day for the past 10 years. It is an essential tool that gets used every day for anything from opening a letter to cutting baling twine to whittling wood. If mr plod ever questioned my carrying of said knife and wanted to confiscate it, I'd be very upset.

Looking in to knife laws, it seems several of the blades I own are illegal in the UK now. I'd happily hand them in to an amnesty but there's no way I'd want to lose my lock knife. I'm not sure why the fact that a knife locks makes any difference as you can buy a fixed blade of any length. What's this country going to be like in 20 years?  :angry:

Any fixed blade knife of any length falls under the same regs, crazy that this shows no reference to intent...
