that could apply to any type of gun

Seen some ou shooters let their cartridges fly several feet behind them without a care in the world

Well I've shot a fair few autos over the years, mainly gas guns, I did find all that mechanical clanking about did put me off a bit. As a former trap shooter the fact that there was only one choke for both shots was annoying as were all the spent shells being ejected sideways!

If cleaned and olied properly auto are fairly trouble free, but will never be as reliable as an over and under.

used to shoot my lovely browning 325  but spondulosis of the neck and lung cancer have taken their toll I now feel very old and ythe only way I could keep shooting was to go for a gas operated semi auto, chose an al391 apart from  berettas lack of service the gun works and shoots well  would recommend it but not berettas service

ok

auto seems to be the choice for many rough shooters, pigeon and crow for instance. Any particular reason/benefit when shooting from a hide for instance. ??

um, might be advantageous for my pigeon and currently rook shooting ??

Beretta

AL391 any good

301-303 what's difference

The 391 is fine.  The 301, 302 and 303 are very similar, the 301 had  choke tubes that slid inside the muzzle and were held in place by a locking collar. The 302 and 303 had normal Mobilchokes. In many shooters opinion, including mine, the 303 was the best Beretta auto there is.

Easy to reload in a confined space, composite stock so don't care if it gets clanked on hide poles, rained on, caked in mud..

Multi shot is good for when flocks come in, although I haven't used all eight shot in one go, five is useful..

I have no idea what is happening to me. Today I took delivery of a long sleeve cammo t shirt (it was chuffing hot in me green fleece yesterday) and now seriously considering an auto. I am losing the plot. My only defence is the necessity of tools for a specific job.

do not tell my old mate les, he will never let me forget it

Nah, I will not part with mine.  Try and find a 'Field' model if you are looking at a 391. The Sporter and the cammo/synthetic models are a touch heavy. The 303 is easier to clean as it does not have the over complicated valve system fitted on the 391 versions. A 391 Field in wood is the way to go, OR any of the 303's.

You are right, they are a tool and not worth spending any money on, Franchi Affinity is made by Bennelli and is less than £600 new, cant fault mine..
