well. Seems there are advocates for all methods that I have tried. Spose its a case of what works for one doesn't work for all.

its turning into an interesting topic though
Nobody has mentioned my favorite method of curing missed targets.

Buy  a new gun...

I do not think that this can be answered correctly on a forum especially if you have not seen the difficult type of bird in question or the Guns ability.

You may make suggestions and offer advice , but if the GUN cannot or will not adapt it all becomes a little academic . I believe that Swing Through may be a default method , but timing and lead and so many other variable need to be factored in.

I think that on very distant crossing or quartering incoming birds a controlled modified swing through with the emphasis on lead is required.

I totally agree salopian there are many factors to consider. I was merely interested in what the "preffered" or "generally used" method is.

seems there isn't one ?

well worth buying one, you can get it for less than a fiver sh on amazon.....

I may need to enrol the assistance of a one eyed deaf coach, do you know any ?

here's thing.

bought two books off amazon, game shooting books used but good nick. One was a penny tuther two pence (I kid you not) incl postage £5-63.

anyway I digress.

re crossers. One says crossers are usually missed above therefore shoot its belly. The other book says most crossers are missed below therefore shoot its hat off.

I have said many times ask ten people get ten replies (same for dog training) jeez.
