after further reading the book that states most are missed above is talking right to left (for rh shooter) he goes on to say left to right are generally missed below. I think that's the right way round, anyway I am confused. Other book does not differentiate just says there missed below. There are other discrepancies as far as I can tell but one aspect they seem to agree on is footwork. I never gave much thought to this and with hindsight I think during my driven days I would have been planted in typical trap style. I am from this day forth going to be doing the salsa when on my peg ?

It does make a noticeable difference if you move your feet. It's a bit like batting at cricket. Once the bird has committed to a line to you,bit wants to be part of your shot routine. Shuffle or move your feet to suit the approach of the bird, pickup the bird, move, mount, shoot! All in one fluid motion.

Move mount shoot by John Bidwell was the book I read as a junior.

People can talk about this until the cows come home , but after shooting literally thousands and watching others do similar I would say that the default preferred method of shooting driven is  Swing Through.

Important to use your feet and agility , but all a successful shot is doing is maintaining the line , whether you are face on or shooting it side on (crossing) , you still must move along the line of flight. Bum , Belly , Beak , Bang done correctly will cancel out the "Bugger".

resurrecting this topic.

I have heard the bum belly beak description but confused in as much as is this just a way of saying start behind and swing through or is one expected to be aware in some way of the certain points of the swing through. ??

ha, I wish ?

no planning on practicing on a quiet day on a driven clay stand ?

No, it's a smooth swing. It's just a patronising term designed to try and explain swing-through to the basic game shooting fraternity who don't tend to exactly exhibit technique. ?

thanks will exactly as I assumed but just checking in case I was missing some cunning method ?

I mean, if you actually shot at the beak, you'd miss it behind assuming it's a sensible distance bird.. (unless you had a wildly fast swing; but that's no way to go..).

Wow! There is over thinking before a shoot day and then there is this.... almost impressive.

Don't  worry about it, see bird, shoot bird, job jobbed.. I'm convinced most targets that are missed are over thought whether game or clay.
