I shoot a lot on my own so I tend to try places with clay mate traps or places with trappers.

I would like to start shooting registered competitions but do I  need to be in a squad to shoot or will I be put into one with other guns on the day?

Finally if any one fancies shooting on a weds in the day or Sundays pm as its always good to have someone to shoot with pm me I'm based in Warminster Wiltshire

The ground will put you in a squad ar reg comps jonah. All you need to do is turn up and pay yer dosh ?

Lots of registered shoots you can just go around on your own - no squading but nice to tag onto a friendly group though if you are on your own.

At the minute I go to mendip shooting ground and I have been to lains I want to try urchfont as its my closest ground, anywhere within 30 miles is not too far to travel for practice.

Purbeck shooting school 39 miles...but a great place to practice.

and you have Widdington just round the corner from Urchfont...Gunsite and Barbury not a million miles away.

Meadowcroft and Podimore...in fact you are pretty centrally placed for loads of grounds

Registereds are perfect for solo shooting. You get a trapper and scorer for 100 birds for around £35 if you go targets only. And of course you meet other shooters including some top shots who are usually more than happy to give you advice after you shot the stand.

Purbecks a bit of a trek because of the route but the others a worth a try think I'm gonna go for urchfont for practice as its the closest but travel for reg shoots.

Anyone shot regularly at urchfont ?

Have to agree, shooting solo, can be the most unrewarding experiance if your having an off day.

Sometimes its nice to have another pair of eyes to misdirect your shooting prowess  :)

:santa:

Shot Urchfont once. Have driven past there to get to Widdington twice (10mins further up the road). I travel from South Wales, 2hrs ish so take from that what you will. Gunsite and Meadowcroft are both great shoots. Four counties shouldn't be too far either if I remember correctly, but I travel a lot to shoot so could be mistaken.
