Davy there is nothing wrong with your gun - just accept that sporting targets are somewhat harder to hit than trap ones since they need quite some more of your knowledge, techique, timing...things that gun doesn't bringthe MK38 trap is a great gun but its fixed 3/4 and full chokes make it very hard to hit sporting targets .
I know what your saying but it is the gun thats the problem . i have used others guns many times and the difference is massive , much easier .i find the long ones are easy with the trap gun but the close ones are the problem . you need to be bang on and when you do hit them they are vaporised haha but hitting them is much harder .Davy there is nothing wrong with your gun - just accept that sporting targets are somewhat harder to hit than trap ones since they need quite some more of your knowledge, techique, timing...things that gun doesn't bring
Further more - once you will learn the ropes you will find that usually the close ones (where open chokes should serve you better) aren't the ones you should vorry about - it is the long ones that are worth all the help you can get and your gun might just be te ticket.
Its not that i cant hit any of them its that it is more difficult than it could be to do it with a more open gun. i have patterened the gun at the range and the difference in spread between my trap gun and a sporter with open chokes is massive . If im bang on with the trap gun 100% of the time of course i will still break them but being bang on 100% is next to impossible . There is a reason people dont use trap guns for sporting . And even if it was all in my head .as you know yourself shooting is 99% in the head haha
Iam a very bad shot but by using the absolute minimum choke I can hit around 80%Its not that i cant hit any of them its that it is more difficult than it could be to do it with a more open gun. i have patterened the gun at the range and the difference in spread between my trap gun and a sporter with open chokes is massive . Rough example below . If im using full choke on my trap gun on a target 15-20 yrds away theres a big difference going to open choke

Good idea actually i must try this i was using 7.5Quite a few shots who uses a trap gun with tight chokes for Sporting use a cartridge which gives more spread like fibre wad 9s or one of the new Hull pro piston or Fiocchi F3 bior which only have half a plastic wad and are designed for short range work.
If the clay is very close then it doesn't matter what you use as the pattern does not have chance to open up anyway.
Are you in the CPSA Davy ?Good idea actually i must try this i was using 7.5
Might get some 8.5 or 9 for the close ones . Might help.
Im still hitting >80% but im coming from mainly shooting balltrap and dtl where i average >96% constantly so 80% is wrecking my head . .
Is there a difference in the spread between plastic and fibre wad?
Hey balltrap no afraid not. Im not from the ukAre you in the CPSA Davy ?
Guess your just lucky then ( none UK ) :lol:Hey balltrap no afraid not. Im not from the uk
80%??? Don't know what you're worried about! Plenty of people will be looking to go with tighter chokes at this stage to get better patterns on the rangier stuff.Good idea actually i must try this i was using 7.5Might get some 8.5 or 9 for the close ones . Might help.
