Hangmanstone (4C as was) for me too. I also feel that this could have been better and I’m hoping the very capable Sean Ponting develops it further. It was 11 stands which isn’t ideal.

I did a ridiculous thing, missing all the rabbits on stand 3. Bizarre really. That aside I agree the shoot was just rather tough. I was messy in first half of shoot and didn’t do badly in the tougher second half but still a disappointing 79. I hit 8/10 on stand 9 and stand 11 which were tough.

Lots of top shots there so scores will look ok at the top, but it felt a bit gruelling otherwise.
Surely harder/tougher shoots now and again are good for learning and improving?  Isn’t it that fire of missing harder targets that keep us going back for more?

Personally I’d rather miss a harder target, and feel no shame for it, than something easier because I was scared of missing?

It’s an old argument of course. Sure, nobody serious wants to shoot a load of old rubbish. It’s all a matter of degree. I do comment from the position of having shot a lot of different grounds so when I say tough I mean relative to what a good registered shoot normally is. And I’m very keen to see this shoot succeed which means it needs to appeal to the wider audience.

Been off all week on the sofa getting rid of a tooth abscess with a lot of antibiotics so just  had to get out.  Went to College Farm for Fitasc which was quite hard made more so with very heavy winds and rain.  I enjoyed it but I was rubbish 😂.  I missed whole pegs of singles and then would get the simo or on report pairs!   Slept  all the way home.
Had the same, abscess, with an extraction AND a root canal rolled into the mix as well. Just went to work and got on with it. 😉...... 😂

Seriously though, I am about 900 notes down due to it though and another 300 up soon for the crown! 😕

It wasn't a complete disaster, just felt like a couple of the stands could have been backed off.  I'm sure he needs a bit of time to put his own stamp on it, just didn't feel like one of his shoots.

Saldy she got a bit upset and I questioned myself after but what is worse; that or someone getting shot.
You done the correct thing, we all should have the confidence to speak out when safety is concerned.  Quite a few years ago Phil, myself and a few others shot at the ground next the West London, as I had never shot there before someone came with me whilst I shot a round of compact/sport trap to see whether I was competent enough to shoot there.  I was therefore dumbfounded to see a shooter who was very experienced walk from one stand to another loading his gun as he went, when I queried this with the gentleman watching/checking me he said he didn’t see it!

Glad you could I’ve had no energy and all going well the tooth will be taken out tomorrow.   The antibiotic dose has knocked me for six.

Luckily my dentist is excellent at extractions, after the injection I don't feel anything during or after the procedure. Hope you get the same.

Had a real lucky streak during lockdown... After no real issues apart from the odd filling in 45 years, in the last 3 months I've had 3 extractions, 2 abscesses, 1 root canal, and 2 cracked teeth. Great time to struggle getting dental help. 😕

I did 4 Counties and had no bad experiences fortunately (apart from missing too many birds) I quite enjoyed it but missed too many silly targets.

I messed up the second (midi) crow a few times for no good reason and stand 4 dropped most of the second bird which should have been the easier one of the two.

The stands which I thought I'd mess up I did reasonably well on (for me) so came away with mixed feelings, kicking myself for the silly misses but happy to have broken some far out clays.

I was on the 2:10pm squad and we were running out of daylight around the last two stands where, fortunately, the clays were bright orange or against the sky, so still visible.

My card was handed in before I could count up so I have no idea what my score was

Which is exactly what I do on purpose even at my club ground nowadays so that scores have a minimal effect on my shooting. I like to think I have a rough idea if I've shot well, but occasionally been well under and well over what I thought in the past, so now I don't count until the fat lady is back in the slip. 😀

Re score cards, I’ve gotten to take my phone round with me on silent so I can take a photo of score cards as weve had so many wrong scores that have been added up in total, example is a shoot last weekend, I know the first 7 stands were really bad, I’d got new shooting glasses and couldn’t get on with them, I don’t think the prescription was correct, took them off, wore my usual glasses and shot rest really well.  Luckily I took a photo of my card as on CPSA I’m  recorded as scoring 48 but on checking my photo it should have been 62!

I find that new prescription glasses ruin my shooting as the sense of scale is different. Perfect vision of undamaged clays is my experience for about ten shoots. I am wearing old prescription glasses to shoot with at present for that reason. I don't mind a slightly fuzzy clay if it breaks. 😁

I had completely new glasses and inserts, they just didn’t suit, the glasses were too curved and distorted my vision, took them back and exchanged for different ones and they seem much better, will try them out Sunday so fingers crossed!

About the only ones I can use are from Specsavers. Hopeless with Pilla inserts and various expensive others..

Contacts are the way forward. No really. Use what glasses suit and no expensive new prescription lenses when your eyes change. £22 for 30 pairs of disposable. So says Mrs Jasper.

Jasper.

I wore contacts years ago but couldn’t shoot in them.  I had Rangers for years with no problem but really fancied the Pilla’s,  it’s the same prescription so sight picture etc should be the same and these ones aren’t as curved, look more like the Rangers.

I agree, I don't want to know what my score is as I go around and I certainly don't want to know about anyone else's score, knowing what you have to beat is the kiss  of death, however I do want to know after the event. In this case all of our cards were kept in a plastic wallet to ensure minimum handling and they were handed in en-masse before I had a  chance to see the damage - I expect the scores will be posted at some stage.

(And Donna) I Know what you mean, stronger distance glasses change the perspective somewhat. I have found that shooting without glasses is still OK, I do it if it's raining for instance and I can still where see the clays are. Obviously nice crisp outlines are a confidence booster

Yup, there's a guy in the group where I go who everyone has to beat cos he's shockingly painful to watch, but it's a slippery slope when last week he somehow jumped 20 kills to hit in the 70s. 😄

Like science... Let's call him 'the control'. 😊

My eyesight is really bad, I cannot see a thing without glasses! They are the first thing I put on when getting up and the last thing I take off before getting into bed!

Last shoot of the season at Honesberie this coming Sunday.

From Facebook: In anticipation of the weather forecast for this week, we will be asking all shooters to park in the farm yard. As always we will be working hard to make it a great day for everyone and transport will provided to take everyone across the field to the clubhouse.
