Any feedback after day 1 at Ian Coley's?
Overall, it was a good event. Yes, it was a bit weird with stands so close together in places. A real mix of targets, including one or two that were a bit much. Stand 7 had a mental target, looking 80 yards and going away. RF leads today on a stunning 115 which I think won’t be beaten. He only hit that mad long target once I heard.

I started trying so hard that I missed three fairly easy ones on stand 1. Never hit the long target on 7, nor another long one on stand 12. A poor performance on stand 13 in the trap shed, dropping 3. Just didn’t focus. I managed a 7 on stand 14, the really long looper, which was OK. A daft miss on last target of the day was just from pressure to beat my mate, finishing on 97. So, not a perfect course, should have been 100+ for me but decent enough effort from Coleys.

YES, I matched RF on that stand 7, chuffed now, pity about the rest though 😟😟

Also Churchills for me today. Enjoyed the targets, everything there to be hit but also suffered from dropping the odd ones and twos. Five stands with just one away is annoying - if I can hit 7 I should be hitting 8. Although, hitting 7 from 8 driven targets is pretty miraculous for me. Finished on 79.

Had a bit of irritation with a group that had been let use the claymate system. First they held us up accessing Stand 2. Then on Stand 4, one of them shot one of my targets from a nearby claymate stand! Slightly disconcerting seeing your clays smashed before you had a chance to pull the trigger!

It was a nice shoot, perfect weather, and relaxing after Coleys yesterday. But still some testing stuff in places. I missed first target of the day, which I just didn’t see until too late. (Green with sun on it). I didn’t miss anything else until the first teal on stand 8. I was so glad to hit the next 9 on there. A few messy ones away as I tried hard to protect the score but happy with 94. A top shot will do a 98 I would think. Edit. He did. 😀

I take it people shooting seperately from the reg competition are allowed to wander onto comp stands inbetween squads? Seems a strange set up!

I've never seen that happen at their Swinton ground.

PM.

Never happened to me before there. Think they probably weren't told not to use the competition stands.

I think with Swinton being smaller they don't take any bookings for practise on comp days.

Sam Green 98 according to his instagram.

Kibworth for me this morning.  I always think they put on a good range of targets at their Registered shoots and that the valley created between the two high banks can allow for some interesting target presentations. I felt that I was probably shooting the best I have since starting back at the reg shoots in May, felt fairly comfortable and wasn't being tentative the way I sometimes am when I'm not feeling confident.  Had a little wobble in the middle, with a dropped first pair for no other reason than rushing it, misreading a target and overleading until the last pair and then struggling with a very close rabbit.  Other than that I was pretty solid with just the odd ones and twos away here and there.  Finished on 82.

Edit to add : and no-one shot my targets today other than me!

I hear Myers hit 116 at Coleys, beating what I thought was an unmatchable 115 from RF. I gather MM hit 8/8 on stand 7 where a target was put on for everybody to just waste lead. WTF? I give up. Amazing.

Brilliant comment “just to waste lead” it was an extreme target, yet it was proved that it could be broken.

Martin is a phenomenal shooter and a very nice guy, congratulations are in order 👏👏👏

No one on our squad hit that target  apart from Phil, missed the first two, then found it and smacked them both in the middle, came off with a 6 but I would imagine there’s a lot of shooters still scratching their heads!  Good shooting from Mr Myers indeed 👏👏

Redrick today for the first time. Was chatting to someone earlier in the week who said the targets there are soft. Bugger me, if today was soft I dread to think what a hard set up is like! Springs wound up and a lot of speed on most of the targets. Stands 6 and 11 did me over, but towards the end I dropped loads of others I shouldn't have, including several random pairs. Think fatigue had set in, my concentration was certainly shot by that stage. Finished on 65, worst score for a while.

Bebo, Phil and I shot there 4 weeks ago and it certainly wasn’t soft!  I struggled on the close whizzy stuff and had my worst score for a long time too, but I enjoyed it, Phil Moss knows how to set a shoot up that’s for sure.
Barrow for us, wasn’t an option to do both as I was having my second jab at 3 this afternoon.  Again, a cracking shoot, some close followed by some long and a fair few sim pairs.  Started really well, stand 5 cost me dearly, first in and struggled to see the targets if I’m honest, then I changed my lenses and went on my way quite well again until stand 9 which was a sim pair of 5 and only hit 3 of them and hardly saw anyone hit the 2nd target. Finished on a 75 which I was fairly pleased with as it wasn’t easy and the local lads we were squadded with were good shooters and they felt it was a bit on the harder side than normal.  Still enjoyed it though.

I went to the first Redricks shoot months ago and it was quite soft. Clearly, Phil Moss has opened more stands and developed the shoot. This one today was firm as was the one I did a month ago. My mate was saying it was a bit too tough today. I actually thought it was very good but doesn’t need to be any harder for wide appeal. I’ve been on form just lately and managed a 90 today but had to work hard for it and some of my kills weren’t exactly impressive. 😀 I didn’t have any “silly” misses, I was beaten by every one I missed.

Shot a round of practise at Orston today. Luckily they had left virtually the full round on from the classic which was really good for me as I shot it reasonably badly in places last week.

Had 4 or 5 birds that I never touched one of so had the chance to experiment with technique and right a few wrongs. Found out that on two birds my lead was right but line was way off, another couple the lead was too much and nowhere near enough but line was good.

Really useful morning and got the chance to watch some of the English open compaq there as well.

92 at Owls Lodge yesterday, good course again with a few sim-pairs (5 I think) and 88 at Willoughby Hedge this morning.

That was a more awkward shoot with clays on the first four stands being a bit of an eyesight test; some I hit and didn't even know.  I shot 50 straight stands 5-9 though.

Both scores enough for class wins but both days I missed 3 on each stand, something I need to deal better with mentally, I think I'm going in knowing that I'm on a good score and just being way too careful.
