Well after 27 years and 3 different 682 guns today I suffered the first proper breakdown,   the one before broke a lever spindle once which made the gun difficult to open and close but it finished the round, this time the 48th shot top barrel wouldn't fire so tried again thinking must be a light strike, no go again and it became apparent that gun wasn't cocking the trigger no matter what so had to shoot last 2 pairs on that stand with a friends CG mid height rib job resulting in 3x4 misses  :( , from then on and for the last five stands used another friends Zoli Kronos and managed 2 x 10, 2 x 8 and 1 x 7 ending up on 86.

Lets hope it's a cheap fix.  :D
If it has a funeral, I'll attend.

Barbury first today got there 8.30 started shooting at 9 finished just after 10,left my brain in the car and dropped 11 on the first 3 stands once it got harder shot better and finished on 75 joint first in C i believe.

Battered the orange Battue though it did want a real push in front...not really sure where the "distant edgey targets" where as i didn't see one?

Very happy with the way i shot the course stand 4 onwards.

On to Gunsite completely screwed the second to last stand on the left hand side as you walk down and then missed all the rabbits on the last on that side to ruin my card again shot what i perceive to be the harder stands well so a bit disappointing.

Note to self..... must practice close rabbits as they seem to have become a bogey target when i generally love rabbits.

Talking of rabbits stand 7 at Barbury was amusing as due to the shadow every time it bounced it became invisible, happened nearly every time and i got them all but a split second of uncertainty waiting to see if it came out again ;)

Had a rare Saturday off so went to Owls with Phil and some friends.  I hardly ever get to shoot there and on the occasions I have, I have been disappointed with my scores, have found it tough to say the least.  Anyway, I decided I was just going to enjoy the day and "go for it" .  We started on stand 12, the quartering rabbit and orange r-l and dropped the last target, went to stand 11, the r-l orange and green simo pair and straightened it ? Was the only one in squad to do so, so was chuffed.  Straightened stand 1 but had disasters on stands 2 and 3' hitting only a 3 and 2 respectively.

My only gripe was the r-l rabbit and battle stand by the skeet layout, how the f**k are you supposed to get your hold position etc if you cannot see where they are coming from when the people in front of you are shooting? Couldn't see a think so went in blind but it was the same for all.

Anyway, lovely to see Will again and have a chat, your stepdaughter is charming! So nice to see polite, well mannered youngsters these days.

Finished on 63 which was good for me at that ground so come away a fairly happy bunny.

It will be a big one with all of them Friends  !

Sorry Guy's BUT I am so glad to hear that is was NOT just me having a bad, bad day.  I went with 3 Friends (handy if you need to borrow guns   ), to a well known Ground not too far away from Merseyside, only to find it had taken a turn for the Wors  (ley).  At £30/100 it is more expensive than others in the area, but it used to be a well run ground and worth the visit. Yesterday we arrived to find that the 10% addition, per shooter, added to your card, had reduced to 4%, a total of 16 birds between us. Now I do not have a problem with that, IF, the Ground is being correctly supervised and any problems can be reported and dealt with swiftly.  By the time we had reached stand 5, we had suffered 4 no birds. By stand 7 we had added 3 more. On stand 7, only 1 trap was working, but it cost another 3 'no birds' to establish that. By the time we arrived at stand 12, (the last) the last man in, missed out on his last 2 pairs (of 4). When we commented on the 'new' ruling and the number of 'no birds' we were offered some further targets to go back and shoot, but as we had put all of our gear away and were going to have something to eat and drink, we declined the offer. It could be a while before we plan a return visit  !

Cheers Donna. We did smile when she held the shooting up a while playing with a puppy.

I had a real off day at Owls. Better outing today at Weston and Honesberie. Was going well at a firm Honesberie until the last few stands so dissatisfied with 83 but it was a good shoot.  90 at Weston was ok, a more palatable shoot for the crowd I think.

I took my wife along to Owls. As she rarely shoots I did fear for her when I realised it was a toughie, so she did well with 58.  Hopefully will get her into shooting a bit more.

Bisley police shoot this morning. I think they probably thought it would be a bit steady by having lots of stuff that didn't need a big gap, but actually made it pretty fiddly. Far too much short window / throw it into a tree stuff to ever feel like a satisfying shoot IMO. A couple of good stands.

I hit 1 ex 6 on a stand where two sim midis were fired at a tree. Didn't even pull the second trigger twice. Maybe I need to learn to shoot quicker but I thought it was silly. I was in a strop after that so it cost me two more next stand.  Rescued an 87. Anybody else on here go?

Sounds very imaginative, perhaps we can acquire his services to set a championship shoot up.

Oh God ! My mate an ex-plod , good shot did this shoot .We shoot together on Sundays.

I am now dreading Sunday .

Tune in on Monday , I will tell you everything that was wrong with the shoot . (Numerous times)

We shot at Bisley today too. Started at 10.30 and 5 hours ??later we finished the last stand. Enjoyed the targets but queues were ridiculous. 325 entrants no doubt was very lucrative for the organiser but I for one won't be swelling their coffers next year. Life's too short....

I have had the 5 hour horror there in the past. This year started at 9am, went straight down the far end and got done in 1hr 40.

Shot 4 Counties this morning. Started off well enough dropping 3 in 3 and one of those was a rabbit that jumped. Then had a melt down on 4 after hitting the first bird on first attempt then missing it the other 4 times. At least half the course seemed to be 5 pair simos. Was happy to straight 8 with some nifty footwork between targets. Dropped 6 on the very last stand to finish on a lacklustre 73.

Nothing Registered close to me today, so just had some fun at the local 50 birder run by Woody.

Thinking of having Friday off to go to AGL. Only been there once and have ever shot a Registered there so worth a try.

Went to Barrow Heath first today good shoot and really enjoyed as I hadn't been for a while.   On to Northampton enjoyable shoot but just a bit annoyed on two stands where some got a bright orange rabbit and some of us got the faded variety which just blended with the background and there wasn't long to shoot it.  I did actually hit them all but seriously hard to see for me.  Was on for an 80 but last stand green clay crossing and dropping on a green background ? Lost two of the second birds out of pure frustration entirely down to me.  So 6 lost on that last stand.  White, pink even orange would have been better.

See you there

Lesson at Honesberie on Saturday then the Krieghoff Masters on Sunday.

The lesson highlighted what a few people have pointed out to me and given me some real things to work on which will all help.

The masters was a fantastic shoot, certainly eclipsing the 'World Championships' from a few weeks ago. A few stands of card fillers (that I was still able to drop some on ?) accompanied with some bigger birds. My favourite being stand 10 on the blue course which was a big climbing R-L crossed from the tower followed by a driven from the dame tower. Was hitting them both well until I dropped the last pair, summed my days shooting up really; lots of mid stand sloppiness costing me clays.

Doug,

So are you saying that a Pikey Farmer can organise an event better than our National representative body?

Looking ahead to this Sunday I see Barbury have a 100 ESP REG on called the Wiltshire Sporting Challenge. Never shot there and its less than an hour away from me so quite tempted. Only thing putting me off is they don’t seem to do many REG shoots and last ESP was 250+ entries which sounds like a lot of queuing to me especially with it being bank holiday weekend. I know the Barbury Challenge was a bit marmite reading the reviews on here.

Other option for me is Widdington.
