Shame you suffered Hamid. No problem earlier in the day and it was cloudy anyway at that stage. I shall be beating your trip length on Thursday - going to drive up to Orston and back (360 mile roundtrip).

A  strange round at barrowheath today. It needed quick reflexes on several stands  rather than shooting ability. I finished on 82 after missing 6 on one stand.

I had a nightmare on 4 stands losing so many my heart just went out of it to be honest.   Didn’t even bother counting my card I knew it was that bad.  At that point I should have gone home. It went to Northampton where I did nearly as well so didn’t count my card there either.  Too tired and should have stayed at home.

Orston for me Sunday morning, not shooting since the British and a tough week a work we're hopefully the primary contributors to a lack lustre 70. Good round that I just didn't give the required attention.

Owls Lodge for sport trap today.  A tricky shoot made even trickier by the wind, especially on first two layouts but very enjoyable.

I'm ashamed to admit I have never shot sport trap.  Must make the effort to some time.

It’s harder than sporting but fun.  Not the singles,  (full use of gun) or even the doubles but the sim pairs, omg, in the wind today it was difficult, but if you’ve never shot it before it’s always the sim pairs that get you as you don’t get to see them obviously and you think you’ve chosen the correct way round to shoot them, then find out you were wrong 😂. First 2 layouts were so wind affected everything was dropping and I must admit I find it hard to get “under” targets, especially if it’s the second target.  Third and fourth layouts not so wind affected but some long targets mixed in with some closer stuff.  Shot those two well so can’t complain too much apart from we had sooooo many “no birds” that it did affect us. I think Phil had 6 in a row and it just plays with your mind.

Owls Lodge is hard enough without the wind!!

Orston on Thursday for a bit of reconnaissance before the inter-counties in a couple of weeks.  I've never shot there before and had a really enjoyable round.  Good use of angles to create some tricky targets and it was nice to see some that needed a decent bit of lead.  Finished on a 72, with 10 out of 13 stands either one or two away.  Shame it's a 360  mile round trip otherwise I think I'd go there more often.

I hadn't shot Greenfields for three weeks so braved the heavy, constant rain as the alternative of watching telly and not getting wet didn't appeal. I've had this light Regatta jacket for years and never quite got round to giving it a decent test and to be fair despite being a cheapie it did keep most of the rain out, having said that I'm now on the lookout for a serious top and bottom wet weather outfit.

The micro fibre cloth I took to wipe the gun down between stands was useless after 2 stands, you could literally wring it out 😆  ended up with 88 which wasn't too bad.

Bebo, which inter counties shoot is it at Orston?

National Inter-Counties Sporting. It's on the 6th and 7th October.  Slightly gobsmacked that Sussex CPSA asked me to be honest.  I've had zero interaction with the branch in the past and never bothered with any of the County comps, so I'm surprised they know I exist.

I went and did the 100 birder at Willow Farm.  Shot it last knocking starting a 12.15.  The rain had pretty much stopped, but the wind was howling through.  One stand had two targets going away to the left so you had to hold your gun perpendicular to the wind.  One bird you had to shoot straight at as it stopped, I couldn't hold the gun still it kept getting blown backwards!  All good fun though.

I can recommend craghopper kiwi pro trousers as being waterproof.

Awkward,

I am normally in my team (although I can't think I have heard anything from our rep about it) but after my last experience at Orston I did say I would never go back and I haven't been back.

What was the problem last time?  I really enjoyed the targets last week and the squad I was with were all friendly.

I haven't an issue with the targets although you do get the same ones that go through the sun there but that could be a lot of grounds.  My issue was the way in which the owner spoke to us and basically told us to f+ck off and shoot skeet.  He is known for this behaviour but still lots go there and put up with it.  Even the girl in the office apologised for and I quote "the way he is"!   There was an issue with the ref (that is a very loose term in this case) knowing where the target was coming from which made a huge difference and when Tony pointed it out to the ref (Tony is never ever rude) he obviously went back to his boss and gave him what can only be described as a "tale".  Anyhow I don't need to travel over 2 hrs for abuse.  Got all sorts of carp from the owner about not having to tell you where the targets were coming from which is fine  but when all your other refs are it makes a mockery out of his argument.  Didn't argue with him at all, did not engage at all just left the ground never to return.

Understand why you don't want to shoot there again then.  Squaded shoot last week was fine, no problems and as the weather was poxy I didn't have to worry about targets going through the sun.

Lots of crossers and loopers and three rabbits.  Hardly any targets you had to shoot straight at and a few that needed a fairly big lead.  Not a single teal or direct going away target in the entire round (apart from one overhead) - made a nice change for someone who's closest Reg shoot is Horne!

Presumably you're referring to Danny Martin. His previous ground was Prescott in Glos, not far from Westfield in fact. I worked for them a couple of times and also shot there a few times but never had any particular problem with him. His partner Emily was always pleasant and seemed to do most of the tasks of running things.

I also shot at Prescott and never had an issue, times have changed I think.  Lots talk about it, none seem to actually do anything about it.  I chose to.

Just back from a greatly enjoyable and testing round at Owls Lodge 😎  very few gimme's and plenty of looping stuff and crossers that needed a bit of respect, pretty sure I hit 86 so a tad disappointed with 84 being awarded. I straighted stand 8 which I reckon was just about the toughest one. 😜

Not looking to make a big deal out of this but when I asked to see the score cards it appears they don't keep individual named cards but seem to write them down against shooters squad numbers 😑  on several different cards, would be happy if someone who scores regularly could explain the point or advantage in doing this as it does appear a touch prone to mistakes occurring if people shoot out of turn by error, also means you can't ask to see an actual card so you can at least check to see where you yourself could be wrong.

Eh? They definitely use ordinary individual cards. I’ve seen photos of several from today..

Just back from owls lodge, my first registered shoot in nearly two years, started well shot stand 1,2 and 3 straight and finished on 66 😳.
