Well not gonna make today unfortunately , shot a PB of 90 yesterday including missing a "gimme" of high 7 on the last round ....dammit,

Have a good one .,

very well done on the 90 always one you could kick yourself for.

Not quite sure how to interpret today. I was the only one of the 2 squads who didn't have Scotland or even BG honours but again they are all really nice peeps. A strong blustery wind and the topography of the ground at NASG made things very tricky for everyone, the conditions and my inexperience cost me dearly.

I'd hoped to improve on last Sunday's PB but it wasn't to be, so went 18,17, 18,18 - 71. No real consistency in where I was dropping the birds and no single reason either. In spite of the disappointing scores and feeling a bit down after round 2 and despairing after round 3, I felt I was shooting better than ever.

Plus points - competed at another ground, shot a full 4 rounds non-stop concentration went a wee bit but shoulder held up, gained yet more experience in tricky conditions, got to meet more of the Scotland squad.

Minus points -  my current glasses are costing me high birds on stands 2&3, I need to get 4 and 6 sorted in my head and not let 'repeat' birds break my concentration.

Highest score when I left was 96

Last wednesday practice put the disappointment at NASG in a different light, shot a 23, 22 while dodging thunder, lightning and heavy downpours.

Wee experiment on Sunday confirmed what I suspected, I've been struggling with stands 2 & 3 because my current glasses restrict my peripheral vision (something like 25-30 degrees of arc to each side) and compromise my hold and pick-up. I tried a pair of standard wraparound style shooting glasses and although I could only see an orange blob I was still onto and breaking the clays with a lot more time and ease. I'm also wondering, although I didn't get a chance to try it out, whether this restricted peripheral vision is why I've been really struggling to get onto the second of the pair on 4.

Anyway I've bitten the bullet, smashed the piggy bank and booked an assessment with Ed Lyons at the end of August, feels like forever but I've plenty to work on in the meantime, mainly getting the rules and course of fire into my thick head.

So how's this going ?

Looks like I'm making Leuchars Saturday ..you there ?

Not sure about Leuchars, just back from letting Ed Lyons loose on my eye-balls  also depends on work which is weather dependant. Last 2 rounds I shot were 23, 22 but that was over a month ago, at least I know I'm capable of hitting every target, going clear on a couple of sporting stands at Oakedge shows my mental game is in decent shape, I just have to get the practical clay breaking side more consistent and that will only come with getting out there and doing it.

Reckon the glasses I've just ordered will help with that, this year is about putting all the pieces in place, so next step is getting out there competing, gaining experience at different grounds and tying it all together.

Hopefully get up to see you at Leuchars.

I've shot every available competition I could make over the past few months it's been a great help to my game in all ways, going forward ill shoot as much as I can till I'm as old and fed up as the rest of them ;)

Its fine ..lots of 'normal' cars there last time..

Hope you can make it, I may personally be heading down for 12'ish I found Leuchars very friendly and well organised last time I shot there.

a bit different fro CSSS then :banghead:

Planning on being there, just skived off to Westlands and reminded myself what a skeet layout looks like, only with the weather it wasn't skeet more like sparrowhawks, woodcock and widgeon, L7 was more like snipe, who says English Skeet is predictable

Oh yes ...and it makes a difference ,I may be more choosy where I shoot next year .

Considering that apart from you and I, all the other shooters were national skeet squad AND it was a registered comp I was pretty underwhelmed. Nice clubhouse and great layouts but the organisation and attitude were carp. I see theres another couple of reg comps there on successive weekends in Sept hope its better next time or I'll be giving it a miss.

Lead for me in my opinion on skeet is nowt stand 1 n 7 then it's 1 ft,2 ft, 3 ft ,3 ft ,2 ft 1ft as you move round .always shoot going away bird first on so if you shoot the incoming bird with only one live shell in the gun this way if you flinch to avoid broken clay your guns not loaded

all makes sense to me though I find its usually someone else's bits of broken clay I have to dodge

Didn't make Leuchars, but its there again on 13th so will make sure this time. Can't make Auldgirth on 7th as my 4x4 is off the road even though its only 15mins from the house :resent: . Just have to content myself with practice at Westlands as and when I can. Pretty frustrating at the moment.

Back driving HGVs full-time again in the run up to xmas so stuck in a cab for 10-12hrs a day with Sundays being the only chance to get to a layout. Bought myself a little DVD player and some clay-shooting DVDs so I don't have to go cold turkey and hopefully learn a few things. Frustrating as hell but I'm hoping that by working my arris off for the next few months I can ease off and concentrate on shooting in the new year.

Had a play on the skeet layout at Westlands on Sunday trying out various things (OSK & Doubles), High house was playing up so between that, self buttoning on the delay setting and the wind moving the clays around a bit it was interesting, so I was pleased to only drop 1 on the last round (ESK) and that was after I'd put U1s in to sharpen me up a bit.

Falkirk is on on Sunday, I'm heading up I need to get some of these practise scores in on the registered comps.

Arghh, Falkirk is one of the easier central belt ones for me to get to but with the run I'm on for the next 2 weeks Sunday is the only day I'm off so loads to catch up with at home. Have a great shoot and I look forward to finding out you went clear on all 4 rounds. If and when my 4x4 is back on the road I might get up to Auldgirth for the 19th Oct reg shoot.

Post up nearer the day and remind me If I'm heading up and your stuck I'm always good for a lift..no worries

Will do, and will stand you some proper coffee here and a bacon roll or 6 when we get to the ground. Getting serious withdrawal symptoms  :resent:
