Muller U0s arrived from Justchoking today and I feel like the final piece of kit for skeet is now in place. Not expecting miracles as the rest is down to sorting myself out, but I now have absolute confidence in every bit of my kit and that I'm giving myself every possible chance to succeed.

Hopefully off to Auldgirth this evening to try things out.
The trick with open chokes is not to think you have a nice big pattern. Imagine you are shooting super full!

Thanks, very good tip. The mistake I made 3rd round on Sunday was that I took Stand 1 for granted and got a very harsh reminder that nothing is a gimme.

This weekend ??

I'm pretty sure I'm going to St Andrews .

yeah a cartridge that I like but that is readily available would help as I'm now out of remingtons, will see what I can get hold of at North Ayrshire on Sunday. Can't use steel on the skeet layout at Auldgirth due to the risk of ricochet.

Used the Muller U0s tonight, I was surprised by the breaks I was expecting them to be much more chippy but they were satisfyingly dusty, for the first time I felt I was holding my own in tricky conditions and was breaking clays consistently throughout the 3 rounds until I ran out of carts, I'd only planned on a couple of rounds but I was enjoying the new chokes too much. All 3 rounds in the 20s but then practice doesn't count.

Had some T1 7.5 and found them a bit punchy. At some point soon I'm going to have to set up a pattern plate, get a load of different skeet carts and see what works best through my gun/choke combination.

There is a pattern plate at North Ayrshire (at the compact sporting) take some white paint, don't be afraid to try 24g loads for skeet, did you shoot with Clayton at Centeral Scotland? He only shoots 24g loads or 9's...try a box of T1 24g 9's £162/k, T2 24g 9's £180, 24g steel £150/k...you will be surprised how smooth 24g loads are, with your recent shoulder pain it would make sense to give 24g loads a try!!!

I've been shooting the T2 24/9's on Toms advice and have a lot of confidence in them .

managed to have time to collect a couple of thousand remington 24s to be going on with but there's 2 of us shooting the same stuff from the same supplier and at £180/k   but the supply is dwindling fast :resent:

Agree I prefer the 24s TBH.

yes I shot on the same squad at CSSS and had a long chat at Auldgirth. Hell of a nice bloke and I learned an awful lot lot from him as well as the other squad members that were there.

Spoke to my brother today about me setting up a pattern plate up in the hills, so I'll set about making a portable one when I have the time.

Dskize, T2 9s are good. You going to NASG on Sunday?

You don't need a pattern plate unless you are going to do tons of work. Just get some cardboard and shoot that. Records the pattern better than a plate too.

over time I plan to pattern every 24g skeet load/choke/distance combination with both my guns and see what the results are and what the best way of optimising the cartridge/choke combination for skeet is without faffing around changing chokes between stands.

For example are fibre and plastic wadded cartridges really 1/4 choke different through my chokes, that sort of thing. Its not a sort of check everything every six months thing, some of it will be once only EVER, some will be to try a new cartridge on the market or try a new idea and I just want somewhere nearby where I can work away in peace without disturbing anyone. N. Ayrshire is 1hr 40mins away and I really can't be arrised travelling 3hr20 when I can have my own plate 15mins away in total privacy.

It's not really to check mount/fit/alignment as I know both guns are spot on, though checking every now and again isn't a bad thing.

the reason for using a mounted plate is so I can use a card for each 'test' and a have a 'library' of results to compare and refer to.

Exactly what I have done (have a stock of cardboard in the garage showing the results)

I was considering both Saturday at Leuchars which I've never been too and NASG on Sunday...

Dskize, working Saturday 2a.m. start which probably means Aberdeen (got to pay for the carts somehow), or I'd be doing Leuchars as well. Have good one and I'll hopefully see you on Sunday.
