I am considering buying a trap gun to shoot sum dtl over the wetter colder months, as most of the dtl set ups in my area are covered! I don't like getting cold and wet shooting sporting clays so thought a bit of trap shooting would be an idea to keep my eye in!!!

Looking at beretta 682x trap or miruko any comments or advise greatly received!

Try & buy whatever suits you & your budget - but be aware, you may never go back to sporting ;)

Was gonna pick a few up but unfortunately unless I want a couple of hours drive nothing l fancy on net is local! I like the idea of the high rib anyone have experience of a miroku 7000 trap? 682 x trap?

:fie:  682X no! unless you want to pay someone to take it off your hands when you become fed up with shooting Down the Drain.

I had a 682x and it was really nice, smooth but was very heavy. I also currently have a Mirooook 6000 trap which is sharper in handling higher in the action. The grip in the stock is very different to. You really do need to try them both and find what suits you.

I've got a 682 Gold E X trap for sale if you fancy trying one. Only in Tamworth so not far away. PM me if interested.

Your best best would be to go to a trap ground with a gunshop where you can try the gun shooting good targets before you commit. Mid Wales SG and Bywell SG are favouirites and always have a decent selection of guns around the £1000 - £3000 mark.

I can't comment on Miroku's becuase i've not shot one of their trap guns for some time. The Beretta 682x, although it tips the scales at a respectable weight, feels light in the barrels and doesn't suit me.

Anyone heard of a 687x trap gun? Found one on net! Must be a bit lighter than the 682x! Only looking at a grand to spend unless I find a mint gun may stretch to a bit more!

682 x not that heavy by trap standards and an excellent dtl gun. I would take DT up on his offer and have a go with it at least you know it's been cared for as DT is a careful owner ;)

I think the 687 you refer to is the prevail x trap and very nice too and yes they do feel lighter than 682 but not as good quality. Also have quite a narrow rib which may or may not suit.

If your are just going to do trap on a casual basis why bother buying a trap gun.I would use a sporter unless you find you want to get into it in a serious way.although I know plenty that shoot all disciplines with trap guns once you know your gun you should be able to use it for all clays. Atb

You'll get an MK38/3800 well in budget, Coleys have a shop and ground on site, Gun shop Rugby have a ground down the road (Barby sporting but no DTL but Rugby and district Trap isnt far away, Garlands not sure what they have on site shop wise. Doveridge ?

I bought a 3800 for a good price but struggling with the fit so its either trade it out or spend £££ on adjustments.... Moral is buy the right gun...... but it may take a while to get used to it, High ribs are in vogue at the mo........

A few oddities out there.... http://www.laddsguns.com/shotguns/detail.asp?S_Calibre=12+Bore&sort_by=SG_Price&order_by=ASC&S_Bcfg=Over+%26+Under&S_Man=%25&S_Cast=%25&S_Price=BETWEEN+1+AND+2000000000&S_Cond=%25&x=65&y=13&SG_ID=3599

Thanks for all the advice! Well may keep my cash in the pocket and wait to try a few at local grounds when they come up!! Tried shooting dtl with my sporter but not a great outcome! Was told would be better buying a trap gun to have a go if I was interested in shooting more regular! My only reason plus I like guns in my cabinet!! . would rather invest a grand in a gun and enjoy using it than earning 0.5% interest in the bank!!

I tried DTL once, but I was rubbish............ kept falling asleep.

Save your £1000, just buy a decent shooting coat and a hat

Don't listen to people who say it's easy, yesterday I shot a round as part of an all round comp and it took me till the 3rd stand before I could first barrel them.

It is easy.... Ok I had beginners luck!!   there's no way on this planet I could hold my concentration to ever be good at DTL total mind game!
