This Sunday (today), as it is a landmark birthday for Mrs H and we are celebrating in Dubai, I have SELFLESSLY booked us into Jebel Ali shooting ground.

Happy birthday Mrs H ! A full report on the ground would be nice Will .

Ok, so not a massive detailed report..

Opposite to most UK venues, whereby we have fairly basic clubhouses hosting very interesting and well kept terrain in which to shoot, Jebel Ali has a superb clubhouse with the usual Dubai quota of marble lined toilets, smart dining room and bar etc.

Outside is far less attractive; with flat sandy areas laid out in STR, skeet and trap layouts. Function over form. One hill made of stones hosted two higher traps but mostly it's all launched from the floor.

Passable shooting rather than great. Tired but decent Beretta 686 guns with good recoil pads, nice 24g Olympia shells.

Not a treat if you are used to the UK and two or three times the price.

But, it was some shooting!

And they are going to take the shooting world by storm? :fie:

I think jebel Ali shows that the terrain needs augmenting. I believe the Al Sheba event is on the case.

Apologies. Thread drift.

:fie:  Oh! thats real professional!  do they drape them in palm fronds to make them look like trees?

well done will i hope you had a good day though all the same , at least with the desert shoot its a test of shooting ability even if it was on the tougher side than we are used to , unlike some of modern day shoots where you miss one you might aswell go home !!!!

So, tomorrow..

Looks like a slightly late start at Four Counties for me and Clayclouter. I just thought I would take this opportunity to blend my present run of poor form with a ground that I never do well at. Well, there's no point going into Christmas feeling too happy! Maybe see some of you there.

Hmm.. 4C was a good shoot today. Not easy, as usual, but a good mix. Today's stupidity was overleading all four of a simple quartering looper. That and missing most of the equally simple looping battues on stand 11 ruined what would have been a half reasonable card. 79... Could and should have been 86. Bought a practice card after and went and banged all the daft miss targets easily (having stuck a tighter choke in to make me try properly. Will leave chokes at home in future).

Feel like a novice. Just need to get out and do more!

Sounds familiar Will; I'm going through much the same myself currently.
That said big changes recently and they take time ti acclimatise to. Whilst scores might suffer in the short term it's the long term gains that are going to make these winter months worthwhile
