I don't eat them either.

Not looking forward to the rain today.!

Like it....lightweight....shows that you have not seen me

Great day...bit damp on 1st 2 drives..but it did not spoil the sport...the wind was great...birds flew well...203 and a phessie. Great day out with proper shooting pals.

Personally, I would just REALLY like to see these guys killing phez at 80yds - I mean an 80yds that is not an optimistic 45-50yds.  And even that would take some exceptional shooting.

JMO of course

besta luck and all

If you are ever in Scotland between November-January let me know, the place I beat you can see +80yd Pheasants killed every shoot day!!! People like Digby Guy make it look easy, 34" browning full full choke 35g or 36g of 4's and years of experience

it is most definately possible if you use the right gear and have the ability, sadly too many dont....was at Springhead last season and saw a guy bring a 20 bore with 26 gram 6's....... 100+ shells later he still hadnt connected......

I think that most of these 80 and  90 yard  pheasants  are no more than 60 yards and probably closer to 50 yards.

So you've never shot in some of the Devon Valleys then Chippy?

I won't say I can hit them because it isn't true, and I won't say I have definitive proof of their height, but as a beater on a couple of this type of shoots you get a different perspective from that which the gun would have.

All I would say is a bird coming out of game cover and clearing a belt of mature trees, I would guess at 20 yards up, then going over the valley to the far side is seriously high to someone in the valley bottom. Looking down at the guns from the valley ridge, they are a long way down, and if you get this view from the side at the top, but look up the valley to the line of guns, you do get a better impression of how high they are going over the shooter. Not many can fold them up, but it's a pleasure to watch when someone can, and honestly you sometimes cannot believe it, but as they say, seeing is believing.

Ian, I think I know the same people and it is possible and not the least bit exceptional. As well as the Perazzis there are a few MK38 trap guns too - and 40gms of No.4! One of the exponents is a short chap - he used to be nearly six foot but he's done a lot of shooting with big loads!

No very true i've never shot in devon but i shoot on a few hare shoots and witnessed several idiots with 3.5"extra full choke autos using 50g 1 or 2 shot shells trying to shoot hares at 70 and 80 yards to know the limitation of a shotgun on live quarry.

Nah! There are "shooters" on here that regularly kill 80 yard pheasants with a 28 bore and 36grmms of 4's! :fie:   :hunter:

Sorry Chippy but like it or not 80 yards is very achievable. Go to a certain huge shoot in North Devon and see for yourself. For the last 25 years i have shot clays, pigeons etc etc, done a LOT of deer stalking and have played golf to a high standard all of which means i have to be able to judge distance VERY well and i can assure you without any doubt what so ever these top Pheasant shots do Kill pheasants at ranges of 80 and even 90 yards. The guys i am talking about would only hit maybe 50-60 on a round of sporting but thats not what they do, all they EVER shoot is Pheasants, Partridge and Grouse and they are bloody good at it!
Well said.

:fie:  I think that the guys who see these 80 plus yard pheasants are the same guys who brag that they have a 12" phallus!

Ah hahahahaha that could be post of the month.

Brave man Moore....!

Tin hats people..!!

It's not a question of being brave Nicola (although at 6'4" and 18.5 stone i am not afraid of many) it's just that i can't bear it when people try and cry something down just because they can't do it! I was a pretty tidy golfer and played off of a 3 handicap as an amateur (turned pro many years ago for a couple of years) but i could never imagine telling Tiger Woods that he is talking Sh*t about the golf swing.
+1

whats their hit percentage on 80 and 90 yarders?

Chippy if you hit everyone then you are on a sh*te shoot......just saying..!!

:fie:  Yes Mr Moore K80 I have reached the lowly C class! :fie:   After a lifetime of shooting I  have degraded from A to C class! :fie:

Old age  (soon to be 73)  and arthritis and eye problems take their toll of ones scores! :fie:  But  it does'ent mean that I don't know what I am talking about!

What some are saying on here is that 80-90 yard pheasants are common place !  they are far and few in between, as to kill them regularly? well that another story.

Not everyone gets the chance to shoot these types of birds....why?.....because these are often private shoots (invite only) or veeeeeeerrry very expensive.

And before anyone says that they can get cheap high birds.....I say .....please pm me the contact details and I will get stuck in before the season ends.
