A terrible state of affairs indeed.  I've only ever spoken to Joe Kitson a handful of times and have found him to be an honest genuine chap.

Not sure of a way forward for the cpsa.  One of the problems is the membership itself, and I'm as guilty as the majority, and I have to be honest, I'm really only in it for the insurance and the ability to shoot registered comps now and unless the membership vote with their feet, nothing will change.

f*** it off and start again it just seems to be an old boys club out dated and out of touch

As a new shooter I looked at joining the CPSA for the insurance, however having looked into shooting as a sport online i found that they didn't IMO do much to promote/protect the sport but the BASC did so they got my money instead.

When you have been in this game  for 50years or more, nothing will surprise you!

Have to agree (rare) with guru here, nothing surprises me, from one PR and governance disaster to another.

It's difficult to comment on the accuracy and voracity of the resignation letter content (although I have NO reason to doubt any of it) - but one thing I know, the membership (and by extension the public) perception of the CPSA seems at rock bottom.

I can't find anything positive being written or posted about the governance of the CPSA - and that is very worrying.

First and foremost, know that the CPSA is a self serving organisation. It exists for its own ends. That's not to say that some of those involved in their activities have the interest of the sport at heart but it essentially controls its membership by imposing rules that require competitors to be members.

The CPSA have been guilty of the same failings for years, principally because the same old faces steer the ship. Those that try to inject new ideas are either beaten down (as it seems here) or lose interest and give up.

It's a terrible shame they govern the sport as they do but until the membership demands better they'll get what they deserve.

That letter does ring alarm bells. There are usually two sides to any story, of course, but I doubt we'll hear the other one.

They only govern some 20000 members

Yes Cyril, I've not been at this game for quite as long as you, but it does seem that surprises are thin on the ground mate!

That doesn't make good reading!

As Nicola might say we've got what we deserve!
She was still saying it yesterday Robert! She's fuming as you can imagine!

I don't understand how it can be in the interests of the company to have a chairman who the members did not want and who seems to have a habit of upsetting fellow directors or members and then costing the company a fortune in legal fees to defend the position that he has put the company in.  It is only ever usually in the interests of the lawyers to spend money on legal fees relating to a dispute

Time to start again i reckon.
Yes Gaz.............but how???  I've not been happy with the CPSA for some time and I'm not the only one. That letter speaks volumes about how OUR association is being run.

Maybe by becoming involved. Taking an active interest in your local region, attending AGM, ensuring that you vote, making your opinion known.

Perhaps by standing for election, writing letters, talking to CPSA officials, you could make a difference. But not, of course, if you're alone.

Sorry Charles but many have tried that tack and got nowhere. I've lost count of how many times I've e mailed HQ. I was surprised at how little clout county committees actually have, only found out when I was on a committee. We have several members on this forum who are either serving or past members of committees. I and many others, feel that the CPSA is no longer run for the majority of members.

Who gives the CPSA its authority? I must admit I find the 'ownership' of shooting somewhat murky! ( Is that laughter from the wings )

Could a wholesale revolt and movement to a new association/organisation simply shut down the CPSA?

A group set it up, memberships kept quiet and not charged for until zero day, some investigation into basic benefits at least insurance and then on zero day 20000+ people withdraw their support in a mass vote of no-confidence. A sort of CEXIT!
