" You won't get a section 7 from Lincolnshire."

Now that really is an interesting observation !

If you have applied for a certificate and it is delayed in renewal, it is a legal right to ask for a section 7 certificate and it should be issued forthwith. Constabularies are loathe to do so as it is documentary evidence which has to be recorded and reported to the Home Office. Whilst they are issuing a section 7 they could probably process your certificate. I do think that Lincolnshire residents do need to flag up the inefficiencies of G4S immediately. If in deed they are as bad as reported.
He's not wrong about Lincs, they do generally refuse to issue them, and also it isn't G4S that hold it up, they are all sat on the chief's desk waiting to be done at the moment. His attitude "they get done when they get done, even if out of date" fantastic! And this was his response to a basc legal team man, for a mate of mine!

An out of date civil service attitude - get with the real world and provide a quality service or make way for someone who will - I am sure that there are plenty of people who would love the chief's job, its salary and pension benefits!  I wonder what the local police commissioner's view on this is?

It is exactly who should be made aware of procedure in their constabulary.

I have been told twice now by the Lincs Firearms  office that I will get Section 7 exemption certificate if my renewal isn't processed in time because I applied for it in good time. I also know of another Lincs applicant who got a Section 7 certificate when his application was delayed and which took a total of four months !

Vic...you will get it if you ask for it. They cannot refuse to give you one. They just hate doing it.

And dont take any crap on the subject.

I have requested,in writing, a Section 7 Permit to cover me in the event that the new SGC isn't completed on time. The request will be sent by recorded delivery on Monday.

I am writing to Cambridgeshire Firearms and Explosive unit RIGHT NOT to tell them how much I appreciate them and what a great job they do.

And they replied already. First things this morning in fact. I love my FEOs.

I have just posted my renewal off.

I moved house three years ago and when notifying them, they didn't want to visit the new storage conditions. Apparently they will come and see me now though. Odd really.. Hope it goes well, especially as I have a fair few cartridges, which appears to be a grey area in terms of storage.

More on this subject but firstly let me say that from a personal view I no longer need a SGC because I have given up clay shooting on medical advice because of a shoulder and neck problem.

I 'phoned Lincs Firearms Licensing today to let them know that I did not need my renewal actioning further and that there was a notice of disposal of gun with a covering letter in the post.

The very nice lady I spoke to thanked me for the advance notice and then, much to my surprise, said that they would refund my £40 renewal fee because they would not be issuing a certificate.

They have not yet  heard from my Doctor who was asked for a medical assessment on the 31st July, some eleven weeks ago despite four 'phone calls from them and two from me.This is,apparently, not uncommon.

I asked if the police were paying the doctors for these assessments, the answer is yes and that the doctors are charging up to £100 for them.

Considering that the initial issue and renewal fees are £50 and £40 respectively these charges are not sustainable by the police forces.

I was told that consideration is being given to changing the system to the applicant asking for the medical assessment of their doctor and, consequently, paying for the information.

Is medical assessment becoming common across the board and if so on whose say so and from what level of government?

Whoever it came from doesn't appreciate that the police forces are covering the financial penalty and who will, inevitably, want changes made.

maybe it should be compulsory for any Doctor once contacted by a Firearms office to supply a medical report on someone, to do so within a given time...in other words, cooperate with the police, or face a hefty fine, there cant be that many people applying or renewing SC's surely ! if a doctor fails to comply and it effects your Civil right to own and use a shot gun just because he/she cant be bleedin' well arsed ,well that is very very unfair  Luckily, I have a great doctor, and she returned her's on the very day she got it, When I thanked her recently she said it only took a few mins and glad to have been a help.

Having,as I said previously, decided to give up shooting and advised the Firearms Licensing office accordingly I was told I would get a refund of the £40 renewal  fee that I had paid because they would no longer have to action my renewal.

So what happens,I get a letter asking me to apply in writing for a refund !

Now come on,nobody is going to turn down a £40 refund so why the waste of money and resources asking you to apply for it ?

Do they use modern,electronic banking for a refund,no,it's a cheque !

From my previous comments about Doctors charging up to £100 for medical references that seem to have been introduced through the back door of the system and that these charges may,in future be required to be paid for buy the applicant, everyone is happy that their certificate renewal could cost them £140 are they ?

Slightly off topic question:

I have my FEO visit coming up on a day which may be just before I get my barrels back from repair. If I open my cabinet and only half a gun is lurking within, will I have a problem. Any body know or done similar?

The company gunsmith should be an RFD?
When I had work done recently the smith took my Cert details incase of problems.

Jem,

Don't think it's an issue that the gunsmith has my barrels (in terms of him holding them). My concern is that the FEO may say 'can't give you a cert for a gun you appear not to have'. Grey area?

Do you have a receipt of some sort from the gun fettler ?

No paperwork as didn't see the issue with leaving a harmless lump of metal with him..the point is that neither he nor I have the working example of my gun. :)

Borrow a set of Perazzi barrels from a mate if you are really worried. Or give FEO details of the RFD you are using and ask him/her to give them a call.
