Another Renewal Problem

No paperwork as didn't see the issue with leaving a harmless lump of metal with him..the point is that neither he nor I have the working example of my gun.

I may be wrong here, so please forgive my ignorance in advance if I am, I thought a shotgun Cert. only covers your RIGHT to own and use a shotgun, sure you have to notify FAO if you buy one etc, but I dont think they actually give a toss what condition its in or if there are bits missing etc, so long as you keep it locked in an approved safe/cabinet, thats mostly what they will be checking! ....but like I say, if I am wrong, someone will no doubt correct me.

Slightly off topic question:

I have my FEO visit coming up on a day which may be just before I get my barrels back from repair. If I open my cabinet and only half a gun is lurking within, will I have a problem. Any body know or done similar?

So, I made the effort and got my repaired gun assembled and in the cabinet in time for the FEO visit this morning. All good, very happy (indeed jealous) of my storage arrangements.

I was slightly concerned that he might comment on my 9000 or so cartridges. He did, but it was 'are you planning to start a war'? And then he moved on, happy. Whole visit was 15 minutes. (Plus another 10 on doorstep talking about shooting).

Renewed certificate turned up today, one week after visit and two months before the old one expires. Can't knock the service!

You can't beat that can you - mine turned up on the day my old one expired, phew.  I also have a lot of cartridges as well but I think the primer is the determinant on how many you can store at home because that's classed as a 'high explosive'.  Each one has about 20-40 grains in it I believe.

My FEO's primary interest was that the serial numbers of my gun matched the SGC.

I have a while to go yet before mine expires...but how far in advance can you apply for a renewal ? .plus, I have been told there has been some very recent changes regarding referees, this true?

They will send you a renewal form around 90 days before expiry. Just return it ASAP. I got a qualified accountant to sign mine..

If the police require medical information then they should pay the doctor as they are requesting his time and effort.I sent my doctor a letter that BASC used to list on there web site that says just that. I like everyone else pay enough in tax so let it come out of the police budget and not ours

Lot's of mates now appreciate the hours of nighttime study after work in the freezing cold Garage in the winter. I am a qualified accountant and pleased to say that I have never ever charged anyone for their certificate not like many doctors etc.!
