I took out BASC membership and then discovered that I needed CPSA membership for a classification. I'm not competitive enough to be in the prizes so next year I'll look for an insurance only package with someone else I think!

CPSA and BASC offer more than just insurance, as do CA,NGO, SACS etc do some research before going the insurance only route.

Les53 ,

The Clubman membership  has never and probably never will make sense to me.

I would love to know how many Clubmen upgrade to Full membership?  One? None?
I did. You can't shoot for the County unless you have a full membership.

OK. So as of yesterday, I am no longer a member of the CPSA.

Which also means that I am no longer covered by any insurance.

Work commitments, mean I just have not got the time to do the registered shoots I was intending to. Just finding time to shoot anywhere at the moment is proving difficult.

That combined with the perceived total lack of interest toward the membership from the board, helped my departure from the CPSA.

Looking at BASC membership at the moment, but nothing done yet.

Which brings me to another question.

Is insurance mandatory?

I don't remember being told by my FAO that I needed to get insurance, although he did recommend joining a club.

What are the consequences of not having insurance, baring in mind that the grounds I shoot at, have their own insurance.

I think you are right in stating it is not mandatory but it is sensible.   Grounds may have their own insurance which covers you for certain things but I do think it is probably advisable to have your own insurance for instances where you are not covered by Grounds.  I am not an expert in these matters but I am sure there are examples that can be given by others.

Insurance aside i believe membership to a shooting body could prove handy come certificate renewal time as it shows that you are involved and active, you never know when they may change the goal posts.

BASC is likely to be where I'll end up.

But I have no experience/knowledge of how good/bad/indifferent they are.

Websites are a good place to start, but they rarely give the full picture.

Your household insurance might have the required cover already, why not check with them before giving money to someone else.

SACS will cover you the same as BASC if not more, at half the price.if you want pm.  Me. Joe  :good:

I will not be joining CPSA or BASC Again.

Would be supprised if your household insurance gave your any kind of third party liability cover while out shooting at any discipline clays or rough, maybe cover for loss/theft.

I used to have liability with one household insurance company...I think it was SAGA but I'm not 100% sure but they did send me a copy of the policy, that's why I said check with your insurer.
