Definitely .....every dog has its day.....woof woof...!

And another thing.......never be bothered about criticism.......these people are often jealous....'duck em'.......they might think they are clever...but they sure as hell have not shot 'your' targets.

Very true, its great to win high gun trouble is for me anyway it doesn't happen very often. Sometimes i admit that i have a score in mind that i would be happy with on the day and focus on that now that may be the wrong mental approach but i have been doing this a long time and i know my limitations. For instance shooting for the north of England team at bisley the other week i set off not for a win for me but for a reasonable team score, i aimed at high 80s both days and finished on a 177 which was good enough to be counted for the team as its top 5 from team of ten to count so i was happy. If i set off to win high gun or class win i would have needed a 190 plus. now although arguably achievable on the day the reality was prob not. My point it that sometimes its better to be happy to have achieved an attainable goal rather than feel down at not having achieved what was in reality un achievable. As i say this may in against all sports psychology i don't know but it works for me and keeps me sane. I also generally start the season off with an attainable goal such as moving up a class in a particular discipline or maintaining class in another.

Yes Nic, every dog does have his day! For me though it ended up not as I had thought ! Many years ago I finally beat an old guy who had been a good mentor to me at ABT. At first I was over the moon.........but on the way home I felt really sad about it, guilty in a way I suppose. I had given a good thrashing to a man who had helped me a whole lot over the years, I just did not feel comfortable with it at all. I heard recently that he has finally packed it in and even sold his guns......very sad, but he must be almost 90 by now!

more than happy to shoot alongside men, women and juniors. I am fairly rubbiish at the moment and as Jem said, I am only concentrating on the targets and see it as the course beating me, not me beaing beaten by others. It's very much like golf in that respect. However, as a sporty person, I'm not a happy doing badly at anything I do but can only blame myself as it's me who points the gun and pulls the trigger....

I am trying to encourage everyone I know to shoot including my wife and mother in law. Mother in law has had a taster session and has now booked a lesson with Carl Bloxham to see if she wants to take it up properly.

Glad I posted this now...did wonder if I might be asking for trouble...really nice to hear all your comments...I have only ever had help and kind words at any shoots I have been too.

I too set myself targets...this year I want to get into class B (not managed yet) and to get a score over 80 (which.I have done with an 85...yippee!!)

But I do like beating men....ha ha ha...

Good for you, i hope you get your B class.

I soooo almost resisted the comment about Ms Whiplash, but I failed - sorry!

I can assure you that if he had taken the time to mentor you for all that time....he must have seen something in you worth spending the time on and he would have been very very happy that he had got you to a stage where you beat him.......I know that for a fact.

I will be very happy on the day that my 12 yr old whoops me......and i know that it is coming...because he is clever.

I say to all my juniors whether boys or girls......1) try all disciplines 2) Even if you are shooting well dont get cocky 3) never ever talk badly about another shooter, 4) never run down a discipline that you do not shoot, 5) the people you meet on the way up...you will also meet on the way down.....so be nice..... and finally 6) it is not important to be liked...it is important to be respected.

And girls tend to do these things really well.

:fie:  Do you like being beaten by a girl?

I think this post could have been titled better! :fie:   As a husband who has been sexually abused for 38 years its not funny at all!

Constant sexual demands have reaped havoc with my self confidence! I've had it all, handcuffs, whips, black balakalavas, honey poured all over private parts, I live in constant fear of going to bed! :fie:

Just be a little more careful how you head up your posts! Unfortunally I am not the only abused husband. so think before write.

What!  Joanna Lumley back in the day with in nice pair of tight cream jodhpur's, calf high's and a short tweed jacket giving you a seeing to down the line or in a universal trench, how could you possibly be put out by that? You would smile and  tug your forelock at that surely :)  On the other hand a squat 12 stoner with a single eyebrow, more black hair on her top lip than desperate Dan and a bigger bulge down below than your self giv'in you the same... the bottom lip is goanna be trembling! No? :)

No I don't think it bother's me. There is one lady shooter at our club and she is quite good, she has been shooting for years and I am now managing to better her scores but she was scoring much higher than when I first started. I have seen very few ladies shooting down here full stop. At the club comp the other week there were about 40 shooters and only one lady, although there were many women there, could it be they know their place see above! :) By the way the woman who was shooting looked a bit like the one at the extreme left in that sketch :)

Lucky B'strd ! :)

Well Jennie, I am sure you will still find a few chauvinistic attitudes out there, much the same as you still do in golf, despite the huge progress made.

I certainly have no problem being on a squad with women, blimey I shoot with the wife most of the time anyway, and its nice for her if there is another female on the squad.

As has been said, when you're on the stand it should make not a blind bit of difference who is on the squad. In this day and age it is even rare that you have to be that overly cautious with the language 'cos most of the ladies seem to swear almost as much as the guys anyway . . . . (with the exception of Nicola of course . . . who is a bit posh don't you know)  :girlcrazy:

Glad you are enjoying your shooting. Keep it up ! . . . er . . . I think its alright to say that?  :haha:

Janine is a great shot and lovely girl and I always look for her scores because if I have shot better I know I've done well. A while ago when she was scoring at a local shoot she asked the first man in our squad if he'd like to see a pair, he replied a glimpse of one will do me, we'll we all fell about laughing including janine. My point being ladies are great company on the shoots and boy can some of em shoot, and no I don't mind being beaten by them either good on em

Gave up being bothered about who "beats" me long ago, its a contest between me and course setter, having seen Ms Hill, Brumby, Faulds, Bream, Grey and numerous other "ladies" shoot can honestly say Im not at, but would like to be at their level.
