Enjoy, Enjoy, Enjoy - and don't shut up - the lesson should be a two-way dialogue.

Probably not!

The only way this can go wrong is if you are with the wrong instructor. Some places will want to make you a game shot, which is not ideal for clays. Just make sure the bias is towards the shooting you intend to do; if you know yet.

Who with?....sorry gary how rude of me. ..what I meant was have you arranged with a coach or just booked a lesson at a ground

This is true Will. You need the "right" instructor, one who understands the discipline you wish to shoot. Well unless you have never shot before of course, in which case most good coaches should be OK.

My first lesson I went with an open mind, didn’t really know what to expect to be honest. Try to take in as much as you can and try not to get mixed up with this that and the other, if you’re not sure of something ask and keep asking until you understand it, but the most important part of the lesson is to enjoy yourself because that’s why your there to enjoy what you are learning. And last but by no means least don’t buy a gun there’s plenty of time for that sort of expenditure in the future when you have a better understanding of what discipline you may like to shoot.

Do any coaches provide notes for the shooter to take home with them to remind them of everything after the event?

Especially for someone new there is a lot to take in for the first time and a lot to readily forget before the next time especially in all of the excitement  of dusting clays.

My most recent lesson had written worksheets that I could take away and study.

Don't put any pressure on yourself, don't worry about remembering it all (you are allowed to keep asking), don't buy anything (your instructor should have all the gear you need, you can make an informed choice about purchases further down the line).

Listen, follow all the instruction, stay warm and most importantly enjoy it.

Also, if your instructor/coach does not suit you then it is fine to pick another one :)

Let us know how it goes :)

Kool where abouts are you from? Cos there is a good coach on here (ed solomons)

Just enjoy it,if it's your first lesson they should be fairly easy clays, which helps your confidence and makes it easier to understand the idea of lead,at least that's what I found at my first lesson. Have a great days shooting

RELAX ... you will miss some and you'll hit some but you will shoot and learn better if you relax
