I like to see some birds that you can really open up on. A good long fast battue at 60 odd yards like the one on red course at the worlds gets me smiling.

a gravity rabit inside 10 yards can be fun and is a rel test of gun control, and a straight driven off a huge tower with the spring wound up tight enough to send it into the next county would be my 3rd one.

It's as if some of the higher ranks seem to think we are now taking THIER cash. unless they went straight in at the top then they must have taken some money on their way up,so why begrudge the lower ranks now they have made it to the top.
you really have this all wrong my friend what we are giving in a round about way is advice, to breed consistency there is no substitute to gradual climb to your potential :) it is too easy over softer shoots to move yourself into a class which sometimes and more than often will leave you like a fish out of water  we all started at the B grade trust me, and there are many occasions in the past when we had similar views to you and shooters like you, I will have a wager that in 10-15 years time if you are still clay shooting your thoughts may change, so take a little advice prior to posting slightly needless remarks.

Absolutely right Clynt let some of these guys come back in 10 years and give their opinions then and believe you me it will have changed......if they are still in the game that is.

OK lets try this from a different perspective, nominate 3 of your favourite targets which you would hope to see regular at every ground, give target type, include distance and speed, then lets see if a picture forms, add your current class. please don,t reduce this by plonker comments like "the ones I break "or " when they are on the card"

Another thing if you are looking at these blogs and not taking part in the debate ......WHY ?

Mine AA

45m crosser at good speed showing a little belly

30-40m teal (not coming back) shot on the way up

Driven bateu (curling pheasant ) 30m+
AA or AAA dunno anymore as not in the CPSA anymore! Moved to the SCTA when I went overseas as it is cheaper! :D :D

Throw me anything don't really care anymore.

Sounds pathetic but i guess I have shot pretty much every presentation there is going although I did see a Rabbit clay thrown down from 20 metre tower straight down recently which was different!

Also incomers at say 20yards at angles fast from the top of banks like they have in Prague first time really saw these targets when i went there and they were different and interesting.

For me it is about who i shoot with over the course of a day or two day shoot and the fun in between the comp!

Glen.

Bit patronising Glen - opinions don't become anymore valid as people get older, they become more valid as people become more credible.

I know you are Clynt

Thats why i shoot different grounds westfield,weston,4c's,wylye,urchont, newbold, hornet etc, and first time to gunsite.so trying different gronds to improve not just trying "soft shoots"to inflate my score or ego.

As for the cash side there has been loads of different threads on here and people saying that the lower classes should shoot for trophies or tipex if thats not discouraging to the lower classes or new people joining then i don't know what is.

If the higher ranks are supposed to be our piers and they send messages of "oi johnny c class p*ss off until you can shoot" then maybe their really is something drastically wrong with some people within the sporting circle.

And they join things like this to see what its all about not very encouaging. :(

It is fact when you have been shooting home and overseas for 10 years you will have a different view no offence but you have been in the game for 5mins mate.

I dont really agree with that but only gripe I have is Birds Only it needs to go and lower Class shooters saying a shoot is too easy!!!

No shoot is easy unless I win it!

Yep - just 5 mins.- how dare I have an opinion.

We all appreciate your experience Glen - but there's a fine line between wisdom and arrogance.

So your saying you only go to a shoot on the off chance of picking up a few quid?.
Chris, I think you are slightly missing the point. It is unlikely that people who expect to shoot 40s, 50s, 60s & & 70s are going to happily pay a competition fee (for any length of time) that includes a significant percentage towards a prize it would be impossible for them to win. It would basically represent a charitable benefit for AAA shooters and that is very unlikely to be a model for long term growth and success of the sport at the registered or any level.

If a ground could regularly attract 100+ AAA and maybe AA quality shots the the format would of course work perfectly well for the very top end of the sport, but that would seem unlikely.....

And of course the lower classes (the majority) would probably just continue on as normal with a class/handicap system...

As for fav targets, I much prefer birds above the eyeline and struggle with close fast stuff at, or below the eyeline...

so...

1) fast high teal on the rise

2) any kind of high crosser off a tower

3) a long distance high crow where it seems to take an age for it to break

Oh and I'm a true novice C (9 months shooting, 7 months competing)....but am fortunate to be able to shoot more than most...and do! :)

I would love to see birds only go and see cash paid down the classes at what ever amounts paid to diferent classes, as long as there is an incentive for each class.

As for easy shoots i have never said there is a soft shoot its the higher people saying it must have been a soft shoot because a C class shooter scored 79.

get over it was a tongue in cheek comment FFS.

Was not meant to be arrogant at all Matt and i was not the only one to say you will have a different opinion in 10 years time.

Didn't mean it that nastily either so sorry if I offended you all I am saying is that I think yours and many others view will change as they improve and experience more shoots and scenarios.

No it is those who get beaten and don't pick up in their class then the guy who beat them is a sandbagger etc. Then when they get a result it is all roses! Funny that ay?

If you went to three shoots and scored;90.90.92 (these are actual registered scores) finished in the places in all three which one is the soft shoot.

Because apparently one of these is a soft shoot and the other two are set by a respected (world champs) target setter.

so which one is it and which is the dolly up course.

Answers on a post card to;
