Hi,

I wonder how long do you shoot guys ?

I picked up the gun about a year ago and would love to break more clays but only as a hobby still do sometimes competitions and become class B :)

. I wonder how long do you shoot ? And how long ( or how much ) it took you to be reasonable shooter?

Kasia I started properly again as in Cpsa reg shoots in 2001 , my first comp I shot a 47 !!!

Spent several years working through c and b class it took me until 2011 to get into AAA

A lot of torment and anguish along the way but worth it in the long term

I started about three years ago... first with a friend at a local club, using his gun - then bought my gun in late 2010, started registered shoots in March 2011 and making slow progress since then.

I asked a similar question a couple of years ago and got some varied answers. To cut a long story short, it varies with each person.

I think that if you only shoot once a month you will probably never improve beyond the basics. I shot a few times a year at first and got no better. If you shoot weekly you should progress well for at least a year.

To get better, you need a reason I think. Starting regular competition shooting will pull you on quickly as you will never think 'I'm good enough'.

Personally, I have gradually improved (with the odd dip and come back in form) over 7 years of competition shooting. As I shoot sporting, there is so much to learn if you want to get round a good course with minimal damage..

So, enjoy it as a journey. Don't expect to make massive progress quickly after the first year. More like good steady progress.

Thank you Steve and Admin you achieve a lot ! hmm so that's a long process as per explanation of CleverSC3, oh no !

Well I started shooting about 6 months ago nearly every weekend but think its the quality not the quantity make a good shot. Average score is about 40-50 % so looks like to go the next level which is 55-65% I need loads and loads of shooting. Ah not that easy as I originally th

I started shooting 10 months ago (in 9 days time) and don't think I've missed a weekend.

Shot registered English Skeet a month after starting and started in C class, now in B class but getting high A/AA scores now!!

Been shooting Sporting for the last 3 months and I'm a high B class, low A class at the moment

When I get a little lucky, I often try and shoot a day in the week but this isn't often!!!

When I win the lottery, I'll shoot everyday :hunter:

Do you enjoy competitions ? As I am not sure if I do .. purerly due to my scores. But then if I start shooting small ones only I will never progress ? ( or not as quick as I wish 2 )

Well done! I am shooting sporting and as a mum at the same time cannot leave our lad every single weekend with friends or family so I cannot commit to do that .. but agree about the lottery idea :) eh dreams !

I started in 1979 when I was 10 , the old man started me off with a real piece of sh*t Belgian side by side that kicked like a mule , still have nightmares about that gun today especially when it double discharged.

Clynt once posted somewhere it would take around 10000 comp targets, tbh I think thats about right, its the competition element of the targets thats a hook, its also the benchmark we all use so gauge our progress, however slow that is for most of us.

I like to travel around to shoot as many grounds and targets as possible...both practice and competition

The competition does hook you in though, its nice to see a record of progress (or lack of)

Looks like you ruined my current plan shoot once a month competition and have a lesson once a month :p

However my 9 year old might have a chance became a good shot :)

I started shooting 10 months ago now. Just Practice. Had a couple of lessons and did my first few registered a couple of weeks ago.

Now looking to do a couple more before the weather drops off. Then over the winter lots more practice and lessons with Ed.

I will do the winter series at Doveridge and look forward to 2014.

hi kasia I got back into shooting about 6 years ago, pretty much B class scores from the off , took me till this year to achieve AA in sporting. but the learning is far from finished, as is the desire to push on that bit more!!! I shoot local at least once a week for practice and try to shoot 1 or 2  100bird comps on the week end. sometimes you can only do, what time allows but always try and enjoy it!!!!!!!!!!!

I shot as a lark with pub mates occasionally. Then I practiced once a week for months with a view to competing. I didn't want to shoot competition and hit very low scores, so I practiced until I could hit 70-75 on a simple sporting course. This meant 55-70 in CPSA competitions at first. I LOVE competition shooting and can't see the point in doing anything else now really..

I started shooting six years ago.
I started registered competitions around two years ago.
Since then I have had the best time shooting abroad and in lovely places with now great friends.
Shooting has changed my life beyond recognition and long may it continue.

Shot virtually every week since 86 apart from a year or so off in 93 when daughter was born and two years ish off in 2003 for personal reasons. How long it takes is hard to say as everyone is different and anyway you never achieve what you want that is what makes us keep going there can always be improvement.
