Appreciate views on this, i shot ok today (for me) 78 ex 100, but I hit every first pair on every stand well.  How come this didn't translate to 100 ex 100? No wind.. so how come I made it look so difficult?

First pair instinct.....started to think after that.

Thats my experience anyway!

what iggy said.

trying to hard to replicate the first success. Its fatal

As said  above. Confidence is a  big determiation as what is called your comfort zone.

If you excees what you expect then the subconcious will pull you  back to your average. If you under achieve you will finish well and bring you up to your average so you end up in the comfort zone.

Top shots have a higher comfort zone. From my observations it's gained by bloody mindiness bordering on arrogance/delusion of ability or being able to be in a position to practice enough to imbed the  performance expectation.

For me it is boredom setting in. If I hit the first pair, I start to experiment before the last pair and then I start missing. I cannot adopt the GD philosophy of a 100 birder being100 single bird competitions -  my loss !

As Chippy says -  shooting fitasc rather than sporting helps.

I've found it's my 1 Bit brain waking up, blather the 1st pair then the brain writes 'no problem', miss the next pair, stern note to brain to stop interfering and then break the last pair...maddening so its a good job its only for fun :???:

It gets worse when you can hit all the birds except the last pair.  I call this popitis ( piece of piss).

This is easy so brain switches off.

Vic.

So, essentially, same as golf...
