I just put a standard green pad on my lads gun. Originally thought I would get the supplier to to shape it but when I spoke to David he convinced me it was easy to do provided you have a belt sander. Use the correct grit belts to shape and then finish. Quite simple to do really.

Sanded it myself, quite easy with a belt sander, my technique is:

Put the sander in a vice so the sanding surface is vertical, this means you can use both hands to control the stock.

IMPORTANT BIT

Wrap electrical tape round the stock where it meets the new pad, you want at least a double layer, this will help you from destroying your stock on the belt, trick to a good finish is, patience and ensure you use smooth sweeping action, keep everything moving so you dont end up with a flat spot?

Ordered an Isis XPad yesterday. I was told to expect delivery on Tuesday :) I too will be sanding it myself but am assured that it's very easy to do.

LOP, apart from preference, is only partially affected by height. 16 3/4" sounds crazy and I wonder if it looks long on Mike (compared to customary practice). It is affected so much by neck and arm dimensions, but also hugely with stance. If you shoot 'across' your chest the length goes right up.
Clever i agree LOP is only partially affected by height. I do have very long arms and a long neck and the LOP suit me perfectly. I shoot sporting and stand somewhere about halfway between front on and sideways on. It works well for me.
With reference to my post to Simonix I was just saying that if someone is 6ft 2" and the standard LOP is somewhere around 14.5" then logically he is going to want a longer LOP than standard as he is taller than standard. His current gun was 13 and 3/4 which is less than standard so logically he will need to add length to his stock and will almost certainly benefit from this.

I didn't have the nerve to do it on the stock! I just scribed the shape onto the backing plate and worked to that (as Dave at Isis would do).

The biggest problem I had was finding a 150 grit belt. Used a 120 in the end and the finish is acceptable ( as it was not for my gun!)

I spoke to David at Isis yesterday and he said to finish the harder base plate and get to a shiny finish he recommends emery cloth and then wet and dry. He also said that if you don't like the green then a permanent black marker pen will turn the green area black.

I have 80 grit to get the majority off and then 120 to get it close. I've got nothing finer than that but could get some if needed but i'll see how it looks first.

120 grit is fine enough, gives a nice 'brushed' finish IMO. Dave didn't mention the emery/wet&dry bit to me but I guess if someone wants a polished effect why not?

I don't know if he still does, but both of my Green pads came with a black marker pen included.

Why not make them black in the 1st place, who wants green ?

Good point phil but could call it isis black that has a certain ring to it :)

I like the green as well, it stands out so well but then my gun is not a thing of beauty with a polymorph grip and red tape on the stock nobody is going to pick it up by mistake........

The sheer luxury of gun racks you trappies are seriously wet nursed :fie:
You get racks in sporting too matey. Many grounds have a stand up rack at every stand. They are easy to make and hold guns both sides.
