Any verdict on using extended chokes - are those tolerated or a definite "no-no"?

I would say no but you are aware by now of my dislike for multi ?

the only reason I can justify using an OU is because its a "proper" game gun with game scene engraving ?

No one will care if they are normal extended chokes, if they are barrell colour I doubt anyone will notice, you may risk the piss being taken if they are turkey chokes or ported mega extended...

question re driven pheasant

question 1

you have another gun thirty yards or whatever to your left, bird flies directly between you both, how do you know who's bird it is. ???

question 2

bird flies across the guns shooter to your side fires both barrells and misses, is it bad form to take a shot, should one leave the bird to fight another day.

question 3

if the bird is close / low and is an absolute cant possibly miss it shot, does etiquette dictate not to take such an easy shot.

First one to shoot it....if other gun calls you a "Tucking Fosser"  It was his/hers...

question 2

If you know you can do it, take it, if its I might be lucky. leave it

question 3

if the bird is close / low and is an absolute cant possibly miss it shot, does etiquette dictate not to take such an easy shot.

Leave it..........

cheers Andy ?

pretty much as I thought but best to check, I am a stickler for etiquette ?

If its not definitely yours then leave it, better one spared than one halved.  Some good advice is a 40 degree angle to either side.

question 2

Presumably this will be winged to some extent so yes it should be put out of its misery.

Exactly this, if you cant miss its too easy and therefore not 'sporting'.. You may find a few birds coming through low, my partridge day on Friday suffered this and its the 3rd day they have shot this year, it gets very frustrating but least you aren't at work..

I just wish a few others would follow your example !

In answer to your above question on a 50/50 bird, I would leave it and simply call "Yours" to my neighbour.

On a bird that has been missed by others, as long as it is still under it's own steam and is still a sporting and SAFE shot, then by all means 'have a go', the term is an 'eye wipe'. Something that I have become familiar with,  of late !

all sound advice, if in doubt leave it seems to be the key.

With reference to your question 2.

I would always see how your day is going? There will be days when your out of it and vice versa,if it's a lean day for you no one will mind a good sporting shot at a bird. However if your in the pound seat and then shoot one they might just think smug b*****d.That  said you will always get some that will shoot at every thing, remember if you conduct yourself in a respectful manner you will be asked/invited back.

Enjoy

I have been to a shoot in Lincolnshire that operates on "Lincolnshire rules" This revolves around that if your neighbours bird is better than yours you get stuck in! All goes very well until one team member isn't on board, then they get a little touchy about it! Can make for a very entertaining day though. You do need a full team of like minded individuals.

I read somewhere that "eye wipes" between friends was a jolly hoot BUT to "eye wipe" someone you were not particularly known too was considered a faux pah ??

(spellin of me French might be wrong) ?

a profound analogy but I think I get the gist. ?

scenario

so far everyone even on quota.

a bird quartering towards you L to R in front of your peg but presenting as a straight incoming bird for peg to your right. Who's bird is it. ??
