Thought I would stick this topic in `reviews`, ahead of time, as I am sure many of us will shoot this event and post on here. For me it is one of the annual events to really look forward to and it starts on the 16th January. I won't go into how it works here; see the RBSS website for full details. http://www.rbss.co.uk/ja-classic.asp I think I have done it for the last four years, making the final twice. My bet is that our very own ShootClay admin, Matt, will cruise into the final, because this event favours anybody who is shooting above their December CPSA average. Look no further! So, 39 CPSA places likely to remain. I want one of them. I think I will book in on day 1! Cheers,CSC3

That is seriously - the kiss of death - but I'm looking forward to a day there...

No problem. They will give you a RBSS handicap (worked out on three or four unstated stands). If you shoot it three times, I think they average your handicaps out for further attempts. The final is 40 CPSA members (or members with 300 targets making their December ESP average) and 20 folk with RBSS averages, like you. Cheers,CSC3

N-o... P-r-e-s-s-u-r-e../wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-cool.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-cool.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-wink.gif

It's always a good fun shoot, but still think it needs a few rule tweaks to get it right. I'd like to see the massive handicaps made a bit more realistic, so the top 10 scores aren't all over 115 for a start, also maybe put a limit on the number of goes you can have, say 5 attempts then you can still shoot but as practice, score not to count. Having seen the numbers of goes some of the locals have to rack up a score is a bit of a joke- half the qualifying spots go the the man/woman with the deepest pockets.Would still do it though Matt, it will be a good laugh.

Agree with all you say Ed, except the 115 scores part. Maybe the odd Rbss handicap works out high, but the others are nearer the mark..For cpsa folk, it works out that you need to shoot a bit better than your average to make the cut.. George will have zero handicap but will get in on a 93 or 94 usually. You will need to hit about 91? I will need to hit low eighties.. I think it works as well as it can. Hope to see you there.CheersCSC3

Is this just weekdays like churchill one or do they do sats as well? cant seem to tell of their blurb. hope its not weekdays as Im out of holiday til april /wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-cry.gif

Just read the rules, they say end of week is 1700 on saturday so Im assuming they shoot it on saturdays. wont get a cpsa handicap either didnt shoot 500 targets up to 31 of october so here we go again with the lottery. surely its not as bad as the churchill one /wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-yell.gif

You're C Class though Andy. You won't need to shoot 500, will you? You're already classified

Quite correctly, Rbss demand that the classification was established over 500 targets, to show that it is a good representation of ones abilities. It used to be 300. I assume hat hey have increased it to 500!CSC3

Apologies, I see what you mean – just read the rules! I squeeze in with 540. There are no classes. Each competitor that is a member of the CPSA and has shot 500 or more of registered sporting targets in the year to 31 October 2011 is given a handicap based on two-thirds of their 1 December 2011 published CPSA average (e.g. if your CPSA average is 70 and the par is 94ex-100, you will receive a handicap of 16 (94 – 70 = 24 x 2/3 = 16). CPSA members who have not shot 500 registered targets in the year to 31 October 2011 or those competitors who are not CPSA members will be given a handicap by RBSS based on performance on the day over 40 targets known only to the organisers. These competitors will establish a set handicap after entering the competition 5 times. RBSS and Clay Shooting magazine reserve the right to reassess any competitor’s handicap based on known ability and performance on the day. Any such reassessment of handicap is final without further explanation
