Is it not time that we started a push to get George Knighted?

We have Knights in Football, Cricket , Rugby , Horse Racing, Cycling, Swimming, Rowing , Athletics. Most of them for an exceptional sporting achievement. Is it not time that the Government and Her Majesty recognised a 22 times World Champion who has also raised hundreds of thousands of £'s for Charities?

Could not agree more,

yes George has an MBE, and not for just winning one Olympic Gold medal but 22 world titles.

Been at the top of his game for over four decades.

If we can make tony Robinson a sir for digging holes in a field surely we can give one to George for shooting in one.

could probably say the same about Phil Taylor (Darts)..... It seems there is very much a bias towards certain sports and not others amongst the establishment. Both George and Phil have achieved more in their chosen sports than most of the other sporting 'Knights' put together but unfortunately I doubt either will get the recognition that they deserve.

They're sanctifying a couple of Popes soon. Can't we just tack his name on this list?

Did I say I saw him walk on water once!    Really!!

+1

One of the greatest British sportsmen of all time ( shame I'm irish .) but shame a lot of the British public wouldn't even know who he is ( believe me if he was irish every one in ireland would know his name and drink to him) yes the shooting Community should push for him to get the recognition he deserves A great ambassador for shooting and a great personality as well, but forget the knighthood make him king long live king George

funny this has come up on forum . i asked him yesterday why he hasnt got a knighthood??? all i received was a wry smile and commented that it has been mentioned.  HE'S A TRUE GENT GREAT SHOOTING AMBASSADOR LETS GET HIM KNIGHTED!!! BRING IT ON FOR SIR GEORGE

Absolutely, he should be Sir G. without any doubt, if not for himself but the positive and good publicity for clay shooting in general.

Forget pettiness of one or two, the more papers and TV give positive press to shooting the better, and what a great ambassador he would be for our sport.

I like the idea of Dame Kate!!!!

Personally I'd rather see Richard Faulds knighted. Shot in 5 Olympics, shoots for his county, for England and GB and arranges shoots and auctions for charity. Sounds far more worthy to me. George just represents himself.

If I remember rightly George got his MBE for all his charity work and not his shooting ability, he's helped raise £100,000's over the years and continues to do so. Couple this with his outstanding shooting record then yes a Knighthood is well deserved

As the countries most successful shooter (as well as the most successful medalist) Mick Gault would come way above George Digweed when it comes to awarding knighthoods.

Forget it then.

Me and George will just content ourselves with a Guinness whilst you lot mark your own cards. :haha:   :haha:

Well as I see it that is 3 knighthoods and one dameship.

All are excellent ambassadors for shooting .....in fact some of the best we have got

Mmmm......not exactly !!!

As they say "a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing"

Just saying !!!

it does tend to be when someone in our country wins a competition they get a knighthood or at least the reccomedation for one that is except for shooting.we are just not politically correct enough for the honours list but we are for the treasury as we as a collective group put many hundreds of millions into the coffers.so yes why not award our shooters and perhaps this is something the cpsa and the like could and should be pushing instead of sorting jobs for the boys for life.

just a thought!!!

There are plenty of world class and world leading sports men and women who have not got a gong, they all represent minor sports and some major sports.  Big G is not getting dissed because it is shooting.  I personally don't think that being a world champion many times over is worthy of getting a gong, it should come from good deeds, top level sportsmen and women are some of the most selfish people on this planet.  Yes, George has done charity work and done rather well for himself, but I would prefer gongs to go to people who have dedicated their whole lives to others.
