being british is all about latching on to one of the greatest countries in the world because it gives freedom.now being English is a whole different game I am English and proud of it the honours list should be for Englishmen and no others.born on English soil.

Not according to the official website of the British Monarchy ! You're implying then that someone like Bob Geldof or Jackie Stewart is less deserving of a knighthood from the Queen because they weren't born English ?

It's popcorn time!
   :blind:  There's none more blind than he who will  not see  :)  it is the very fact it is not bestowed by birth right that makes it an honour worthy of respect the world over.

Hahahahahahaha Just think, the Royal family are of pure English blood, 10+ generations born on English soil...

No wonder there is growing support for the 'yes' vote next September....

Bye bye......now.....

I am off now it is getting silly.

I am not really bothered if he gets one or not either way he will still be the greatest shot of our time.what this question has shown is that the sport of bashing anyone who does well in this country is alive and well.unless of course they are from far away shores

I think it's about time clay shooting had a Sir, and George must be the greatest clay shooter that this country has ever had.

I am not sure anyone has bashed anyone who has done well, on this thread nor have they lauded someone from far away shores.  Maybe I missed it.

It's not an 'old firm' thing, it's an Irish thing...one of my grandfathers was from Letterkenny, which if you know your Irish geography, is in the North, but in the South, you could argue with him all day day he has Irish, he'd just say "I'm an Ulster man and I'm British!"

Being 'British' is not just about where you were born...ask the Falkland islanders!!!
Your comment that Bonio is British not Irish can only be based on the 'old firm' view of nationality, one that is tied to certain spiritual beliefs, for indeed Bonio is Irish but not descending from the spiritual traditions of the majority.

I may have misunderstood your comment but are you suggesting that a persons spiritual allegiances determine nationality.

Bonio is very Irish, he chooses to pay his taxes in Holland, like all successful Irish people, he feels that the rest of us owe Him something.

Anyway we would need a bottle or two and some hours to discuss this properly.

For the love of shooting clays, Give George the Title.

Off topic but us irish would drink to anything my point was if we had a 20+ world Champion at anything every irish man would know his name

Not to dis Sir George (future) but it's been my experience that the Irish will drink to anything

just saying .............
I had to go back to see that I had indeed left off the smiley face.

I've lived in fairly close association with a red-haired Irish descent woman for over forty yrs.  I  understand.

and here's the smiley    :nyam:

Do we need to have a referendum to see if we let the Scottish stay a part of Great Britain, ;-)

It was the English who wanted and paid through the nose with bribes of land to get the 'alliance' in the first place...

Nothing like holding a grudge....what did we get in return deep fried mars bars.

I have seen brave heart. No shotguns involved

Perhaps you should make George a laird.

Darkside,

Could I suggest that you read the history of another Shropshire Lad ? The Duke of Sutherland.

Read about the ghastly experience of the Highland clearance.

We English have always thought sheep were more important than Scots, if only to provide  the Welsh with Leisure Centres..

Quite possibly the funniest man on earth. If you haven't the time and want to go straight to the Braveheart bit then it starts at 5-48 but I HIGHLY recommend you watch the whole thing at some point. This ex sgt mjr really is absolutely brilliant.
