So being a Bank Holiday Monday I took the opportunity of the good weather to get out and shoot. So with Podimore now closed, Wylye due to close and who knows what is happening with Southern Counties, it was a shock when it was mentioned that  Broadmoor Shooting Ground (Devon) was closing (believe the last shoot was today)

Now I don't know if this is true, but having done a little digging on the old web, there is land for sale in Devon that has been used for clay pigeon shooting. (http://www.vebra.com/stagsnew/property/24399603).

If it is then its another ground that has gone in the South West. :(

Its not the last shoot here, there are several more before the owner closes for the pheasant season. However you are correct the ground is/was up for sale; I spoke to the owner today about this and he is taking it off the market, not sure that reason for putting it up in the first place though!?

But it would be a terrible shame for the Devon, as the majority of the county events are held here, shooting in the south west is in dire straits though!

Hi snipey

Thanks for the update. I agree it would be a great shame if the South West was to lose another ground!

Sad news indeed.

I note from the CPSA fixtures schedule that SC has fixtures up to march/April next year so assume closure isn't imminent?

Even if Southern Counties does stay open, they won't be getting anymore of my money unless things their change I.e management and rip off prices!

The sale particulars refer to the sale being made on behalf of Nat West Bank as mortgagees.  I wonder if this is all the land he owns or just part of it.  Its only 20 odd acres which does't sound enough for a clay ground.  Perhaps the bank are pushing him for repayment of their loan.  This ground obviously has existing permissions for clay shooting so should be a good buy for a group of shooters subject to the above about the land quantity.  Is this an answer for Ian Stones?  An opportunity whatever!

Yes Robert the owner mentioned something about the bank; but then he said he was speaking to them tomorrow and that it was to be removed from sale!?
Yes it would be a reasonable place if a few shooters got together, however like with many places there have been issues with noise; and I don't believe planning as been forthcoming, so it's not quite as attractive as it could be!
With regard to size Robert, 20 acres isn't massive but it large enough for 3 skeet/2 dtl layouts and a small number of sporting stands in a separate field!

If these closures really do go ahead then clay shooting in the south west is going to be in severe trouble! At this present time nobody really knows what will happen at SC, maybe even the owner doesn't know. As an OT shooter I feel very worried about what is potentially going to happen, the south west has very few trap grounds as it is, let alone ones with OT!!!

Sounds just like the Midlands!!

It looks to be getting worse mate!!!! Semms trap shooting is only very well catered for in the north, probably why so many of our top trap boys are from up there. Yes there are good trap boys in the rest of the country, but a huge amount are from the north! I was with a guy last week who shoots at a local straw baler sporting shoot, we talked about OT last week and he knew nothing about it. So last night he told me he found some OT on youtube. He was shocked at the speed and angles and could not understand how anyone could shoot it, or even why they would want to! So that is what we are up against, shooters that are not even aware of trap in the first place!! Worrying stuff!!!

Or, to be accurate, OT in the north-west, as Trap disciplines in general are pretty extensively well catered for in the North and north-west.
Only if you are talking practice, nearest ground for Registered comp for ABT UT OT is Beverley Degla haven't had a ABT or UT since march

DTL is not much better as Deagla and north of England.

Not to be a pedant, but Fauxdegla did have reg ABT only yesterday - albeit part of the inaugural World All Round. But you're right about UT - I can think of a handful of grounds with the facilities, but reg comps are few and far between. OT even fewer.

Exactly mate you see my point.

Have spoken to Mike this morning he is doing 100 reg ABT as form Oct also doing a very interesting sounding 150 target reg 50DTL 50ABT 50UT. not sure how often as yet but that sounds very good to me.

Just spoke to Mike again and the ABT is monthly as long as there is enough interest so I for one am hoping there is.
