give it a go mate you know it makes sense, its a Scottish Clay Target Assn comp but you can do birds only if you want, I'm told that 15 is about as many as are likely to enter but given the sh~t weather I don't think it'll be that many.

I'm a member already just haven't shot a comp yet , Yeh I might just do that ..it says 11-2 do you just turn up at half 10 and say you want to shoot the comp ? I'm more concerned about finding my feet with the booking in and squad process than anything else

Far as I know that's pretty much it, folk have all been really helpful so far. I plan to get there for about 10.30. It'd be good to meet up with another bod off here.

Cool, I'll be driving a big beat up black L200 54 plate and will aim to be there for 10:30 , come say hello if you see me .

Names Jamie

Thanks Daf, Saturday is about experiencing another ground, Sunday is about beating my last score at Auldgirth, no expectations just putting the foundations in place. Felt I made quite a bit of progress at Westlands today, the key is to try and replicate it in competition situations.

well flippin'eck talk about shooting under the influence, Dskize and I were squadded with the Scots Skeet captain and another couple of team members with two more on the button and scorecard so both of us were more than a bit overwhelmed for the first round I got 18 which I was happy enough with under the circumstances Jamie (Dskize) was comfortably in the 20s.

There'd been issues with the high house trap so after some work it was decided to move us to another layout, after an awful lot of fecking about we finally got settled on a layout and got round 2 underway, I'd got to know the other folk and much was more relaxed was clear going into round 2 onto stand 4 hit high, missed low hit the repeat then missed the low of the pair, recovered to clear the other stands to finish with a PB of 23. After that it was downhill, my concentration started to go midway through round 3 and I started to develop a headache before we started round 4 finished with 73 so 11 better than my last comp. Lovely bunch of folk without exception which is just as well as I'll see them all again tomorrow. Learned a hell of a lot and got a couple of really good pointers including a flaw on some stands I hadn't been aware of but made sense when it was pointed out.

'Twas a good day and I'm happy with an 84 in my first registered shoot , strangely round 1 was my best and 4 killed my score but a very good experience and it was good to get the nerves over a bit in friendly company.

I might make it tomorrow as this has just made the bug bite harder.....onwards and upwards...

Oh yeh..and it's Morton Clays your looking for for the doubles....it's on the website.

yeah you were going well 84 was a great first score, be good to see you tomorrow if you can make it. Thanks I'll look up Morton clays and see if there's any spaces if I can get away

Sounds like you both had a cracking day and came away with very respectable scores, particularly for your first comps!

Nice job.  :hi:

Thanks Phil, for me it was one of those giant step days but also gave me an idea of what to work on next. Back on familiar ground tomorrow at Auldgirth, if you can call a couple of practice night familiar :scratchhead: at least its only 15mins from the house instead of 1hr 40.

Muller U0s ordered

Think I've figured out my issues on stand 4, pair

1. most of my practice is solo using the delayed release button so I forget to nominate the first of the pair

2. having to call for the high bird causes me to fixate on it and forget the low bird

Stand 6 can throw me as it's still High, Low singles then changes to pair Low High and there's been a few times I've set up for the Low single first

so it's not that I can't hit the targets its a mental thing which breaks my rhythm/concentration and should be fairly quickly sorted.

Don't worry about going 'birds only'...don't think anyone who shoots skeet up here goes comp anyway!!!

No luck making it today ...bloody children expecting some sort of paternal presence occasionally ;) .

Have a good one and if it helps I had the exact same thing on four from practising on the voice control..I call in practise and call before I load for the pair so as not to break the pre shot routine..

Well it was a game of two halves 'arry. or rather 4 rounds 19, 21, 14argh!!! :dontknow: , 21. After a damp start it dried up and the sun came out but a blustery wind got up to move the clays around a bit high house ballooning and stalling and the low house keeping low and occasionally nose diving

I was pretty upset about the 14 until Mrs Bryn pointed out I'd upped my PB by 2 from yesterday. Still 14! FFS . I was first up on the first squad so a wee bit of slack could be allowed but still ........... shot fifty and fifty and my brain refused to cooperate on the restart. Put what lessons I could from yesterday into practice which helped me pull things back in the last round and got more help today after the comp. Nice to get 75 today after yesterday's 73 but that 3rd round is going to rankle for a while.

Muller U0s arrived from Justchoking today and I feel like the final piece of kit for skeet is now in place. Not expecting miracles as the rest is down to sorting myself out, but I now have absolute confidence in every bit of my kit and that I'm giving myself every possible chance to succeed.

Hopefully off to Auldgirth this evening to try things out.
