Ya it was bloody cold there yesterday, with showers too. Good variety.

I thought it ran quite smoothly tbh, as smooth as could be expected when limited to one UT layout. Only about 20-25 mins between rounds, with a 45 minute break in the middle.

Ill make it to these trap all-rounders from now on, good way of building experience. And if they keep the £35 entry fee, then all the better. Its usually £33 for 100 dtl, so we got an extra 50 targets for £2 effectively!

(Cant make the abt on the 27th, but I'll be there every other month)
Glad you enjoyed it Bob,shame about the weather! I gave up shooting in really bad weather many years ago,I hate rain, except when I'm looking out of the pub window and I'm getting wet from the inside!!!

I never realised that the eell and the 10 were so different,I thought it would be just cosmetic apart from the comb height. Have you thought about getting the 10 altered and re balanced?
its a common thought that its a pretentious side plate for 7k but not the case. Have considered many things les but recently i think i am in dangerous fiddling territory trying to get that extra few targets and you know as well as i do that your in for a whole lot of trouble.

Have tried both guns, high hold low hold different focus points composing on shot before mount and mounted have tried slow mount quick mount only thing not tried thus far is standing on one leg, none of it gives me extra targets just gives me a headache. The point is mount gun call for target attempt to hit target accept what happens that's my new technique. And before anyone says have you seen a coach the answer is no i don't do teachers or coaches never have never will. I shoot better when i don't think just do but its not often i can do it due to a few personality issues like being a perfectionist.

Don't worry Ian we all get those times when bugger all seems to work, even though the same thing worked perfectly well before!

Les

yep been here many times before that's why i recognise the danger of meddling. If i could turn my brain off i would be a much more consistent shooter. But there you go what can you do ?

Herein is the problem Ian. How to turn off the conscious and let the subconscious take over. Maybe we should take up yoga or zen buddhism or something? Mind you Ian, it is often the case that I can walk home from the pub, make a coffee and a sarny, upset the wife and I have no recollection of any of it in the morning........it just happens all by itself! It's a bit like those days when you don't even need to pull the trigger , everything is on auto pilot. I doubt if shooting whilst wrecked will ever catch on and it cannot be legal, so I guess its back to yoga then!!!! :drag:

Update

i went back to the eell with brass bead and ensured i removed my brain before starting don't know exactly what i did as i only thought TARGET but it worked as shot 22 23 24 23 at ot so a very happy shooter. Currently in caravan in cumbria nursing my sciatica which has been niggling for a few weeks, see if copious amounts of scotch dulls it.

Did you go to degla how did you do was there many there ?

Ya, headed up there. No comp on, no interest! Ended up shooting 50 abt & 50 dtl. 18 & 20 on abt, 22 & 23 on dtl. But happy with my shooting tbh, I figured out a problem I was having with gun mount, and not many 2nd barrels on dtl. So looking forward to 100 dtl again tomorrow.

So you had a good day over at sealand?

(Also, I love how this has basically become a PM between a few of us, original thread was about help with a type of OT target!)

Yep threads go that way sometimes.

Told you they don't do comp unless enough interest which is wrong IMO as a reg is listed on cpsa and there web site !

Your abt is coming along nicely particularly last weeks reg which was excellent. Some disciplines suit certain styles maybe you have found yours ? Dtl is the hardest to excel at IMO.

They said they would put on a reg shoot for 3 or 4, but not 1! Must have been the only one!

Ya I am enjoying the abt. Going to keep practising dtl, ot, abt & ut, with a focus on dtl. It should be the easiest but for whatever reason I can hit 21 abt, then 18 on dtl. I need to focus more!

Also, I do tend to slow up on dtl and stop my barrels, which simply isnt an option on ut or abt, as the targets are moving so fast, I always seem to swing through the target on those, but find myself letting an occasional dtl clay get too far out, and then stop when I think im on it, which of course Im not. But still learning, all part of it.

You sound happier with your ot this week.

Bloody well done Ian. I must say you were shooting particularly well. Not so myself although during my last round ( also using 24g Fblus) it did start to come together. I'm still struggling with swinging the gun through consistently (keep stopping the gun looking for that perfect sight picture which I know is not the way to shoot trap) but when it does happen properly it just seems so effortless. Just gotta keep practicing I guess?

DT

Yes been working on a few things recently as lost my way a bit.

The difference with Dtl is that your shooting not to miss which is mentally harder than shooting to hit, that's why Dtl is so bloody hard. Play with them all for the next year then pick one that suits that's my advice.

That's great shooting Ian, well done mate! Did you actually consciously see the bead after calling for the target,or was it all done on auto pilot?

Cheers les.

All i did was concentrate on seeing the front edge of target nothing else i just let the mount happen and the shot took place all on its own. My natural style is to call as soon as mounted and that is what happened definitely did not see barrel or bead of that I am certain. As you know i have done a bit of work lately and tried different things but natural style is the only way. It was one of those days were you never thought you were going to miss and everything felt right (sure you know what i mean) pity it wasnt in comp though. Ha.

Funny thing is that my sciatica been playing up last few weeks and it makes me try to protect it by standing more upright which presumably gives better vision and possibly my whole body movement is more restricted. Whatever it was i hope it stays. :)

ps- Mr T's explanation for this out of character good shooting was that I removed the conscious parts of my gun mount and simplified everything. I like that a lot and intend to use it to remind myself so that I can replicate it. Must remove brain 1st though, that is a must :)

cheers Gregas you say practice is the key as is full concentration on seeing the target and full commitment to the shot. Trying to aim or make sure of a hit at fast trap is a miss for certain.

Was good to see you and HCS again come up and shoot with us again soon.

Ian

ps

sorry for late reply somehow i missed your post.

Yes I know exactly what you mean Ian! Some days everything just goes right and you almost have to do bugger all. It almost seems kinda mystical in a way, like someone else is in control!!!

Here is a little teaser for you guys. On two occasions now while shooting the 100 all round at beverley, 25 straight on DTL, first 12-15 straight on ABT and then loose the next 6 targets only to find the last few fine. It is as though for some reason I loose the plot half way through but why, buggered if I know.

It is only fair to say that on the faster trap targets ABT, UT and OT this seems to happen every now and then. I really like this type of trap, not good at it but enjoy it so I find it very annoying when this happens.

I think it is what is going on between the ears or perhaps what is not going on between the ears.

Phil
