i'm thinking of going to my first comp shoot and being new, and uninformed was wondering what happens from the moment you pull up to the time you leave also on average how long are you there.

any info would be much appriciated.

cheers

A good honest question! I bet several folk are typing overlapping answers..

1. Park and head to the clubhouse / hut.

2. Buy an entry card, entering 'birds only' if a beginner, as this will save you £5, to opt out of potential winnings..

The next bit depends of the type of shoot? Where are you going?

I don't know it, so I assume its fairly informal. Certainly not a CPSA registered shoot.

I would give them a call, because these little shoots are usually self-score and self- button, meaning it can be awkward if you go on your own. (Bigger shoots, such as CPSA have scorers, so going alone is fine). Call them and ask. They may offer all sorts of help (or not..)

Jem's right, never forget the food! :D

Preferably go with someone who's experienced. But failing that, if it's registered, when you check in, tell them you're a beginner and never done this before. Any good ground will sort you out, maybe get a regular to take you round. Or just get your card, go to stand one and hand your card to the ref. When it's your turn, the ref will tell you, then turn them all to dust!! :D Move on to stand 2 and repeat! If it's not registered, more difficult as there are no refs, so you'll need someone to button for you.

Depending on how many turn up, you could be there for 2 or 3 hours. But get chatting to the guys in the queue and someone will point you in the right direction - we're a friendly bunch, us shootists! ;)

What about all the tea! That could take an extra 30 mins at least.

thanks guys i'll give them a bell to see whats going on and yes i will be having a fruit and fibre breakfast (bacons a fruit right)

This shooting ground has just recently became affiliated to the CPSA. It will not be a registered shoot, and it is fibre wad only.

does that mean the cpsa insurance dose'nt cover me for this event .fibre wad is fine i brought some and shot some today.

any idea what the cake is like there

CPSA insurance covers you whilst participating in recognised and approved activities of the CPSA:

These include:

Clay target shooting

Game shooting

Rough shooting

Vermin control

Wild fowling

so yes you are covered, it does not have to be a registered shoot.

CPSA insurance covers you everywhere, pretty sure..
True, even on Sovreign Base Areas when abroad! Think the only thing not covered if my memory serves is sea fishing from a boat and fox hunting....pretty good realy! Oh and if you tell a copper I said it covered everything and don't have any car insurance I recon you may well be in the sh*te ;)

Well speaking as a pure trappie I find it hard to see how you sporting guys find any time to shoot, what with all the pig sandwiches, tea, cakes and chatting! :.: :.:
