UK non- lockdown update. We received no orders today at our factory. So we are now still in work making non essential stock for when this is all over. Our management seem reluctant to furlough us all. Anyone have any ideas why. 

And we STILL have random couriers wondering round the place . Even  After our super managers said they'd sort it. 

Come Boris , you have our support , but non essential factories making stock??? Time to get em shut.

Perhaps they’re unsure what the rules are? I’m told by my employer that they can’t move on Furlough yet as they aren’t clear about the rules.

FYI... I checked the .gov.uk website. Wasn’t fantastic help but confirmed my suspicions that the 80% of wage to maximum of £2,500 per month is tax and NI deductible. Though the employer will not have to pay employers NIC, tax or pension contributions.

The upshot is, as far as I can work out, if you earn £37,500 per year or less,  you’ll be 20% down on income (unless you employer pays the difference) if your earnings are more than £37,500 a year, you’ll have an even bigger drop in your income, but again, your employer can make up the pay gap, but they are not obligated to do so.

This means the government is paying a nett wage after deductions of about £1,995 a month maximum. If you have a student loan, BIK or other deductions, then you’d have less I assume.

The caveat is you must do no work or generate any revenue for the company (training courses are allowed, but some I believe might be excluded)

This is my own understanding and it’s definitely not my area of experience or expertise, so a pinch of salt might be in order.

@Charliedog Seems not, but again, things aren’t crystal clear.

that said, with the cost to the government, the money has to come from somewhere. I can’t imagine that will come from existing revenues from taxes, so a loan would seem likely. So, with loans being secured on the nations taxes, I expect 22p in the pound to £37,500 might soon be 25p and 40p perhaps becomes 45,  50p for over £150k may become 50p over £100k, with similar hikes in VAT and NIC

Given that the gun's not otherwise employed, I figured that I'd do a proper re-finishing. I'm letting each coat dry before the next grit of emery paper: tedious but hopefully this will yield good results. Am not usually inclined just to let gun parts sit about for days on end, so at least there's that. Plenty of downsides to this covid-misery, but by the time we get back to shooting at least it will look right again.

Sorry. It was sort of a rhetorical question. They won't furlough us because they believe they are doing nothing wrong by staying open.  ( Government guidelines ) . So they have no regard for us or anyone else during this mess.  They will not close until they are told to. Hence my appeal to Boris , or anyone else. Non essential . Get em shut.

This really isn't about money . Although Boris's measures are welcome. It's about lives . And not just our own. 

And yes I do appreciate that essential workers have no choice. 

But some companies do.

We’ve been on a fraction of staff in at any one time for a while now, but total closure from tomorrow. About 110 furloughed. We haven’t got it sussed or paid yet, but it’s happening regardless.

To hear them both in one sentence just reminds me how lucky I was to take a redundancy deal and early retirement .  I’d reached the point where I was quite likely to respond to individuals in both categories with two word answers   This was a constant source of worry to the VP I reported into

Tell me about it.  In a small business, each of the Directors has to take on a role other than their actual profession.  I'm an Engineer, but have ended up responsible for HR.  I hate it. Anyway:

- furlough has to be minimum 3 weeks or you can't claim the govt funding

- no work at all can be done during the furlough period by the person put on furlough

- can't have leave or sick leave while on furlough, as you are effectively still available for work during those

-no notice period, but it is effectively a change to someones contract so you need to discuss it with them and get their agreement.

- make sure the letter confirming it to them has the start date of the furlough period so that you've got it as evidence of start date for your claim

- make sure you are fair with who you select to go on furlough if you aren't putting all of your employees off.  Make reference to protected characteristics so that you don't get any claims against you for choosing people from one specific group.

That was the main stuff.

I think September should be OK (hopefully). The ground owners i've spoken to are expecting to recommence competitions in August. Some are even looking at July for registered events, albeit with the possibility of restrictions to prevent gathering.

They are dreaming for July,things are going to get worse before they get better and the risk of a resurgence will be on the worry list.

People are proving nationwide what retards they are by not following the rules are making it twice as hard to deal with,i live on an estate and people are coming out that haven't seen the light of day in years simply because they have been told not to.

Seen groups with hundreds of posts railing against Police heavy handedness because they were asked politely to go home,to many people are still not taking this seriously!

The Dumb f*** i will do what i want brigade are causing mayhem for the sensible among us and laughing at social distancing,the amoebae will be the cause of many unnecessary people getting sick.

I really do not share your optimism this virus is going to be around for at least two years. Presently in France I cannot leave an area of  a 1 km radius around my house other than to get food. This present emergency has only just started and has a long way to run and I really do not think governments are going to see their good work and huge economic input undone by people wanting to partake in a pastime.

This is just what I have said in my post... though not the same words. People talking about things being back to normal even by Christmas is pie in the sky. I am really glad I stay out in the sticks you see far fewer people and therefore have a better chance of avoiding the infection. However we all have to eat and when my wife goes to the shop is when we become vulnerable. In supermarkets you have no idea how many times something has been picked up and put back onto the shelf and not many people are wearing gloves so you have a good chance that if you are going to get infected it will be by that route. The problem with this particular virus is that it seems to be having really deadly effects on people who would ordinarily regarded as being healthy.
