absolutely :)
But why does everyone think DTL is so easy I wonder? I honestly think that it's harder than OT in the long run, mainly because of what it does to the mind, especially if you have a boggey peg! :(

Totally agree. Shooters coming from other disciplines walk in thinking...'easy peasy' and blow their brains when they miss two or have second barrels.....often accompanied ....bloody hell how did I miss that easy one...?

Because you are a plonker for getting your concentration distracted whilst going for that really easy sit up and beg target that I could have walked past quicker.........or something on those lines.

That is also why.....and wait for it (not been mentioned for ages).....people who shoot well and come to Helice thinking that they will win....often cannot take mentally the missed targets. (snigger). Some drift in some drift out but only the tough remain (wink)

Twice in a day, I find myself agreeing with Nicola (make a note :)) - I tried trap three times (once ABT with you Nic, once DTL and once OT), it is anything but easy - fast, quick, needs skill, and consequently I was crap.

I still find it boring uninspiring, but that's me, I like trees/hedges and topography more than pegs and traphouses - but that doesn't make it easy.  It just makes it different.

I certainly wouldn't have the mental attributes needed to really try hard at Trap (or Skeet for that matter)

Well I can't comment on Helice Nic as I've never shot it. I shot DTL for about eleven or twelve years I guess and I've seen grown men almost in tears because they shot a 100/296, and they were guys who had already hit several 100/300's. :D

Les

Excuse a newbie for asking but I would expect the score to be 99/100 or 300/300 or 296/300 so why is it recorded as 100/300 or 100/296?

3 versus 2 versus zero....nada....niz

Robert 100 relates to targets killed 300 relates to all 1st barrels 3 points for a 1st barrel kill hence 300 a 100/296 is 100 kills with 4 second barrels 2 points for a second barrel kill

Now that I understand - Many thanks Ian

OK Robert it's quite easy really. 100 birds, first barrel kill gives gives 3 points, second barrel kill gives 2 points. So a 100/296 means that a person has hit 100 birds with 4 second barrel kills. :)

Ok you beat me to it. :D

say what you like it is still just a pile of going away birds ritualised by a group of people who have nothing better to do than endlessly shoot the same bloody bird over and over again !!!!

Tried by many, mastered by few! :D

As varied by the wind, changes in light, mirage on a hot day etc so i don't think that they are all the same and I'm not a DTL shooter

whatever the light ,conditions, course , mood , weather whatever the position they are all still the same birds !!!

mastering the monotony of seeing and shooting 100 birds of the same ilk consecutively  is not something that would attract me

besides I Shoot with a muck spreader so the elite of trap would be very unhappy if I turned up and littered there pristine greens with spent cartridges !!! :)   :)  JUST NOT CRICKET OLD BOY!!

In OT there are various "schemes" and you never know what one you will be getting, none are easy. In DTL the birds are random, none are very fierce, however trying to get a 100/300 is no easy matter! :)

i think DTL targets are easy (maybe easier) but the format of the competition makes them ninja.

OT are harder targets and easier competition format for the likes of me in D class!
