If I raise the comb 6mm what effect does this have on my point of aim ?

Will this also effect the point of impact?

Will the POI be higher or lower?

Ha Ha :)   interesting question here is Alan Rhone's take on your question.

Alan Rhone.

"You have uncovered one of the great myths of shotgunning - that comb height changes point of impact, it doesn't, it changes line of sight. Changing where you are looking may or may not affect where the gun shoots, it all depends on the way you shoot. If you aim the gun using the front bead like a rifle front sight then you will find that a high comb equals a high shot placement. However, if you look over the gun and use the rib as a subconscious aiming aid, you will find that the height of the comb makes little difference unless it is so low that you lift your head to see over the rib. In this case a low comb can make you shoot high. Trust me on this, changing comb height does not change point of impact.

Changing the pitch will not make any difference to the point of impact either. Pitch affects comfort and how easily you can mount the gun. I have carried out many tests using guns with adjustable pitch and I can tell you that changing from extreme down to extreme up-pitch does not move the point of impact at all but it certainly makes a big difference to recoil."

AW13, either Ballbag is thick or he's failing at being a comedian...I suspect both!!!

I assumed you were a sporting shooter, just wanted to make sure before I advise you to COMPLETELY IGNORE the two old trap shooting chumps...they are one trick ponies, trap shooters who only require ONE method to shoot clays. Swing through...go to hold point, call pull, see the clay, go after clay, shoot at clay as you pass through its line with a moving gun, take another shot at clay if it doesn't break first shot. Repeat another 99 times, trying not to fall asleep with boredom!!!

They know nothing of shooting clays that need a different amount of lead during every part of its flight, loopers, rabbits, dropping crossers, tower birds, midi's, battues are all alian concepts to them. The need for visibility above the rib is lost on them. Advise on shooting sporting should never be trusted from them. They are like cyclists in a F1 race when it comes to sporting. Half of them go mad shooting trap, the other half shoot trap because the are mad...there are odd ones who escape from a lifetime trap shooting with their sanity, trust me, these two are beyond help!!!
And not a "FUD" in sight!

think the biggest problem is gun mount. learn to mount gun in the right place every time by instinct and practice use bead to check alignment on the bedroom wall then when you have it correct ignore oe remopve bead and when you mount the gun correctly all thats left is to see the clay apply lead and blast it to bits

remember the 5 ps   practice prevents piss poor performance

simples!

He also has a lot to answer for..................................he developed a variety of adjustable comb    !

yep, I think he was one of the first to offer the service. Had a 682 gold done in 94 by mr rhone and a fine job it was too ?

Update - I went out this morning and tried my hardest to ignore the gun.  Overall a good morning no spetacular results but I felt better and will keep perservering.

Hold on a minute Ian ... are these things not on one of your many lists? :)

they are now john but I admit to having dabbled in the dark arts of adjustable things in the past ?
