ok i have just spoken to someone at BA and they confirmed that there is only the charge of £50.00 each way, their website also says that they waive the charge for bulky items?
Sadly, that's not the policy at the check in desk.  I was a pretty unhappy (non-travelling) customer last night and they wouldn't budge.  If you carry the gun in your main suitcase, then you could avoid the £65 charge each way and would only have £50 to pay, but if you are limited to one case as in the ticket you've got (ie not Business Class), and you bring an extra gun case, you pay £65 for the extra case and £50 for the 'handling partner'.

And the arrivals at Dubai is also interesting.  My lad was at the front of the queue with 2 others on the BA flight ie ahead of the Virgin flight and it took him 2 hours to get through the 'admin'.  Goodness knows what tempers will be like when another 600 people turn up.  Hopefully, they'll have got it sorted by then.

Gav, was it the Delhi Branch of BA that you spoke to?

Dunc - this is not the experience I have previously had with my gun case. The £50 is the price you pay to carry the guncase (and the handling), and nothing else.

I'd complain about this - the policy was clear when I flew.

Thanks. Will let you know how my conversation with BA goes.  It's been years since I carried a firearm so I've no recent experience myself.  But the check in desks at T5 were totally and absolutely clear that it was £65 followed by £50.  And several of them all agreed.  :fie:

I agree with Matt. I use BA for any long haul flights and only ever been charged £50 'each flight leg'...so if you change planes once it is £50 + £50 each way.

The weight is included.

This is an important change if they have started doing this now.....!! Not good...! Not good at all...!!

But on the bright side.........

just spoke again and BA are correct im afraid, after being cut off by someone who clearly hadn't a clue, one peice of luggage 23kg to check in, one piece of hand luggage also 23kg, anything extra you will be charged!

Roller flat it seems. I suspect there are other places with more contours that will be used. Reports will soon tell us..
I very much doubt it, it's a desert. If you look closely at some of the pics you can see cherry pickers in the distance. It's the shoots first year, there will probably be things they don't get quite right, like anything else new, hopefully those will be minimal, the organisers are happy and it carries on for years to come...becoming a regular 'start of season' fixture, if it does, with the backing it's got, I'm sure it will be a huge success!!!

Good luck everyone out there, have a great time!!!

Looking at the massive structures they've put up, I wouldn't be surprised to see them 'build' topography next year if they get feedback... they'll have rolling hills for miles!

Well in that case can't you take your gun on the plane as hand luggage?? :spiteful:

DT

PS:

And before anyone responds I am joking!

This shoot will continue.

If you remember when I told you all about it long before it was ever announced....I mentioned that they stated that they want to get the prize fund to one million by the third year.

Spoken to a decent chap at BA Customer services.  The policy is £65  for an excess bag/case (as said above) each way in addition to the firearms handling charge of £50.  However, they accept I've been misinformed and I'm getting a £130 refund.

(However, if we had packed the gun in the main case, it would only have been £50.)

Have to say, the Customer Services chap was excellent.  I fly several times a month on business so am used to these 'issues' but it's not often the resolution is as quick and satisfactory.

Not really folks because the new EU / World transportation rules prohibit packing the gun or cartridges in the luggage.

We had to take cartridges out of luggage last year..!

I think that the airlines are all getting confused with the new rules....and how they are applied.. Because there are sections of leeway.

I noticed EasyJet have also put their prices up slightly this year for guns.

Ah well......hope you get a refund soon.
