couriers all sorted being picked up tomorrow.

going midland game fair on sunday, if you hear about the GMK stand getting burnt down,

it was me........only joking

Had my 692 about 18 months now. I did have a few early niggles with a sticky top lever that required 2 visits to GMK to rectify, but its fine now and hasn't missed a beat since. Certainly the best O/U I've personally owned.

I read this and a few other threads with surprise.

This isn't exactly a newly developed action, Beretta have been manufacturing shotguns with a very similar design for decades. It's quite astonishing that issues such as this coul;d arise. Warranty repairs should be a rarity at this end of the market.

I think the reason is greed and lack of foresight. Beretta knew very early on that they'd pitched the 692 at the perfect price for a ready market; thousands of 682 shooters who had shot their gun for years and were ready for a change and thousands more first time buyers of the make who would rather spend their money on a steady name as opposed to the odd newcomer here and there.

Even now there are very few makers of note who'd sell you a competition gun at well below £3k. Anyway, the greed came when Beretta panicked and rushed guns out of the factory with the inevitable result. It's not a new phenomenon though as Blaser and CG to name but two have also been caught by similar early on problems.

It might be a old design that's been around for years.

But it's probably manufactured completely differently.

CNC techniques have change. New cheaper machines.

Different alloys prob more recycled material in it.

Less human labour more machines.

Mass produced at cost to the end user.

It all takes its toll on quality.

I think you have it spot on there Hammy...mine certainly felt like it had been produced to a fixed launch/availability date as opposes to a 'when it's right' date.
I'm dealing with things like this all the time in my line of work and I know market forces and expectations are always high, but it's always better to under promise and over deliver than the opposite.

Having said all that, now its been put right I'm very happy with it.

Iggy, did you notice the top lever sticking more when shooting in damp conditions?

Not really no...if anything mine seemed to play up when the weather was warm which I put down (rightly or wrongly) to the the wood perhaps expanding a little....
First time it went back to GMK I suspect they were a bit cautious about making too great an adjustment, so when I got it back it was fine for a week or two then started to stick again.

Second time round they must have been a bit more confident and made a bigger adjustment as it's not put a foot wrong since.

Wish I could say the same for operator error!

That's what made me think of the wood swelling near the top lever mate. They certainly scrimp on finishing oil, and during damp/warm conditions, the wood seems to swell as your case or mark far too easily, leaving milky white spots.

Be interesting to know what they did to sort your top lever problem out. Shims maybe?

Why on earth have you had three barrels? What happened?
heavy machining marks in the receiver on one replacement ( looked like the symbol for the olympics ) and offset machining for the choke on the other.

couldn't believe it myself.

you would have thought when returning a faulty product you would get a perfect one in return...not one retrieved from the scrap bin!

seen as i had to travel 35 miles to the shop to send and collect each time i was a bit pissed off,the shop were to as gmk expected them to pay the courier to return.

nevermind all good now.

no reply from italy to the email i sent querying if they thought this was a good service from GMK.

had a call from the shop yesterday been in touch with GMK there a bit behind with repairs at moment but should

be at the shop end of this week.

was thinking of sending beretta an email myself but do,nt know the italian for shove that piece of junk where the sun

dos,nt shine.

I met a gentleman this evening with a Prevail and a 692 both back at GMK for repairs for over five weeks now.

He is extremely happy with his Caesar Guerini and will probably have two as new Beretta's for sale in the future.

Said it many times before beretta quality is not what it was.

this is the third beretta i,ve owned and the most expensive and the only one i,ve had any problems with.

rang GMK today, got the impression they were,nt interested even wanted me organise and pay for a courier

made my mind up there and then to get rid.

might get a spud gun and a 1000 7 1/2 king edwards.
Probably as legally its F all to do with them! LEgally its all down to the retailer that is who your contract is with the retailer not GMK
