As we left home it started snowing.  Southdown first Sportrap and Sporting.  Let’s just say today was gale force and rain and so it was quite challenging.  When Tony has difficulty standing up and keeping control of his barrels then I have no chance.  I laughed my way through both.  Then went to Horne where it was snowing but wasn’t settling.  Got there about 2 pm and we were the last to get in as they were closing entries an hour early.  Some really hard to see Targets there.  Home now and cooking a roast.

Had a bit of a layoff recently (by accident). I just knew first shoot back wouldn’t be great and it wasn’t.. I did STR at Owls Lodge and immediately missed 6 on first layout. Usual issue, can’t see myself pushing in front, or maybe I can, but too much lead seems right when I’m rusty. ? Then got too careful and the next one wasn’t great either.

Improved a bit from there, but damage done.. Anyway, three shoots this week (like busses) so hopefully less rusty tomorrow at College Farm.

College Farm was a firm course today but my word, the rust is in me. I think it is many years since I failed to straight a single stand like I did today! FFS. It’s incredibly frustrating when no target actually fazes you but you just can’t settle down to hit them all. Meditation or rum needed tonight I think..

Also CF today, albeit on my tod, my wishful thinking that the forecast would be wrong was sadly way off and ended up as wet as Ive ever been when shooting a reg, got a nippy later on as well, did this cost me a few? only on stand 11 did I think that as in lashing rain I just rushed through it dropping 4 that in reflection it should have been 1-2 at most, same conditions next stand and having had a word with myself a straight 8/8, managed two straights today offset by a very early doors 1/8 and a later 2/8 on stands that I just wasnt at all comfortable with watching let alone being in the stand.

Weather apart a good challenging shoot, made some more chums, this old codger ended on 69, which given shoot and conditions Im ? with as in past years the early 1/8 would have seen me implode rather than tough it out, one is C class mind.

First day of three, Mike 92 was I think high gun at end day 1

Just back from Churchills. Think I was the very last card out at entry # 143. Started pretty well and then made the fatal mistake of totting my score up and seeing that I was on for a 90 with 2 stands to go. Subsequently I tried too hard on Stand 11 which was not a tough stand but was holding on trying to make doubly sure of the kill and ended up dropping 3. Walked to 12 to find it was a simo of driven which is my bogey bird although have been getting better. A few steps back today as managed to drop another 5 finishing on an 82. Would normally be happy with that if you offered it to me but to drop almost as many on the last 2 stands as I did the rest of the course was very frustrating..

I too was at Churchill’s and the weather was lovely I thought for this time of year.  Only one stand for me that caused me to wince as I came off with 4/8 and that was stand 10. Simo pair managed to miss 3 of the closer bird and one of the further.  I was too high and in front I think.  Driven was my last stand, surprisingly only missed 2.  Had three stands today where I missed the last bird!  Finished on an 88.

Well done Sian, looks like you were joint winner in Class.

So am I as I shot like a knob at College Farm today so should be good for Sunday ??  I enjoyed the shoot, good squad and clays but I just poked at most of them, all manageable but I really could not find any form.

I had to pick up my son from London so perfect opportunity to shoot Abbey's last shoot on their present Detling show ground on route, really enjoyed myself despite some fairly busy stands and managed to run round in under two hours. There were one or two quite stiff stands which I shot well but uncharacteristically missed a total of 8 rabbits today  , not particularly hard either but difficult to see against the dark background with the fog/mist, could have been a handy card otherwise but had to contend with 85.

I wonder when I might become sensible.  I went out today very cold and wet - Four Counties and Westonwood, I have a heavy cold and just a disaster.

Keen and stupid, words, closely related meaning wise on days like today Sian  hahaha

Do you wear lots of correct layers ?

Yes Hammie but I don’t like to shoot in a coat.  I wasn’t freezing just really no energy and I should have known better.   I have a bit of an annoying cough and cold and I managed to ping something by my rib cage today so hurt swinging, hurt to cough, just hurt full stop.

I was really stupider than normal.  Complete waste of time me shooting today.

Told you giving your pen to the scorer was a mistake.?
Ah was that you? Ha ha. Poor lad, watching him desperately engraving cards with an inkless pen. Had to give mine up.. (only had it in my bag from our local self scorer shoot.. honest.. )

I don’t like to shoot in a coat.
Me neither.  I've found that golfing windshirts are my saviour in the winter.  Long sleeve thermal, polo shirt, lightweight fleece (craghoppers are great) and windshirt over the top and I'm good in even really cold weather.
