Enjoyable set of targets at Weston Wood; really struggled to get any stand sorted.

I didn’t straight a single stand, so that’s at least 12 away. I won’t mention the further 17 I missed....

Ended on 71. Looking at the scores it would suggest a lot more was there for the taking.

Also went to Abbey, for the first time in many, many years. Was looking forward to it...(admittedly, perhaps through rose tinted glasses) catching up with old friends, the end of an era & the first time pulling the trigger in almost a year.

Much as the cold & rain dampened our spirits a little, I was thoroughly disappointed by the course setting. Stand after stand of simultaneous teal/going away targets. Of 22 targets there were 2 rabbits and maybe 5 crossing presentations. The remainder were straight up, straight away or straight at you. I must confess, poor discipline on my part, but I was bored rigid and threw away a good card by 'playing' with the targets & trying to shoot them early or late. Notwithstanding its closure, I'd never go back on the  strength of today's offerings...

Weston wood for the start shot the first half well but started to get cold was bloody freezing there, felt like i seized up and just couldn't seem to move enough and dropped loads from the last 5 stands for me actually the first 5 as we worked our way out..finished on 74.

On to a slightly warmer Four counties where we found a gap in the rain and finished on 81 which i was fairly happy with.

I seemed to have developed a problem of dropping the last bird after straighting the rest of the stand,as soon as the scorer mentions those magic words "last pair" i drop one.

Bloody annoying as it cost me at least 5 targets at each shoot!!

Had my first go at the Royal Berks Royal Flush Challenge this morning. Shot by myself which didn’t help as felt a little rushed. Missed some silly birds especially in the Grouse Butt but was happy with a 9 on the tower. The Walked Up stand was strange trying to keep my lead leg forward but different & fun. Finished on 66 which at least puts me on the first page (for now).

Will definetly have another go next year.

Chris Childerhouse put in a 91 yesterday and now leads.

Richard isn’t allowed on the scoreboard as he is an ex Olympic shot. Stupidest rule ever, but the insurers of the prize stipulated
Was only 89 anyhow

They can win one of the £1000 pound stand prizes but not the larger prizes, agreed the rule is stupid as none of the challenges resemble an Olympic discipline.

Going to try and get there for a go inbetween xmas and new year.

Yeah Richard is on the scoreboard but cant win the main prize. Tbh I will be surprised if anyone wins it if a 92 is needed in the final. Then again people said that about the Range Rober before Mark Winser won it.

Yes it is a weird rule about Olympians. Did Richard win a big prize there before and they dont want him taking another?

No, it’s just city insurers who know nothing about shooting and assume only the Olympians can shoot.

Just back from AGL. Fairly tough shoot I thought but I also shot it like a complete tool. Arrived at 9.20 and stands 1-3 were already rammed so started on 4. Never really got going and between lots of silly misses and a couple of horror stands I was given a 3 on Stand 12 when I had shot a 5. I also saw at least two others scored incorrectly. I will drop AGL a message as its frustrating that half the refs call misses and the rest say nothing. Chap on 4 called me pair lost, I questioned it and he corrected himself - thats how it should always be.

Went back to 3 and ended up in queue behind 10 people out for practice not shooting comp with some very dodgy gun handling. Poor ref had someone take his clipboard. It was chaos. Took me 1 hour to do last 3 stands.

On the plus side I finally met Bebo from here and another chap Neil Gaff from facebook. Oh and the M25 / M4 traffic was fine on the way home as I was dreading the xmas exodus.

Good to finally meet you.  It was slow going around today.  Started just after half ten and was nearly half two when we left.

I started off really well, only 3 birds missed after 5 stands.  Effed up Stand 6, just took my foot off the gas a bit and was missing the second bird behind until the last pair. Was fairly steady for the rest of the shoot and finished on a 78.  Was hoping to break the magical 80 barrier today, but people were saying it was on the stiff side today so I should probably be pleased with what I hit.

My brother came along today for his first shoot since joining the CPSA.  A respectable 62 for his first registered shoot.

Was busy at AGL today.  Not better yet but sick of being in the house all week so went.  No good score for me 68 apparently.  I enjoyed the targets except one orange paired with the green and I simply didn’t see the orange.  A good few groups shooting non-competition so backwards and forwards.   Few way too noisy people who should know better and would expect it for themselves and I’m not usually bothered by it but it was over the top.

Yes AGL was a bit different, with some new stands out in the woods and fields. My tatty performance form of late continued with 82.

Both me and my mate were robbed a kill by the ref on the fast low orange, which inevitably would be shot just above the ground. I had been chipping it, but there was so little time to see it, so I left it a touch later, smashed it to bits and got a loss given as it was touching the long grass.

A tricky course today which murdered most people in C class. My mates young daughter hit 56 and was half up the order! You can feel AGL are developing themselves for the EO but I think they could have backed off the shoot a touch today to please the crowds. The HG on 95 was monumental!

I also had a bash at their STR comp, which was extreme targets. Had a bad last cage and finished on 18, but enjoyed it.

Not a bad round TBH.. a few close soft ones too.....95 was about right.deff NOT monuemental as you put it, the scorers struggled with more than a few cards at once it seemed !!

C class was won on above class averages i think.same old, same old.gotta shoot more grounds to get used to different courses !!

Never look at class win to judge a shoot. There is always somebody in C class waiting to be in A class.

Yep.....exactly, so not that many actually get murdered as you put it .Happy Christmas Will.....are you coming to visit me at Eriswell Lodge on the 30th ???

Something for everyone to enjoy & 13 stands to ease the queing with no 10 target stands !!!
