Weston Wood today.  The lessons learned were: Don’t start on the hardest stand just to beat the queues and I must try not to hit 3/10 on a stand, as it ruins a card. ?. I shot the rest well enough, but the damage was done. A good course though. Not their easiest I thought.

Weston Wood for the first time today. Have avoided it before as have heard about the queues but was not much else on. Took 20 mins to get a score card and 3hrs 15 to get around shooting solo! Stand 6 I had 22 shooters in front of me. By that time I was cold and had lost enthusiasm. Some decent targets which I did not do justice finishing on a very sloppy 66 but I won’t be heading back any time soon as hate queueing that long. Also got hit by clay debris on 3 stands.

Stand 6 I guess? I managed 4/10 getting none of the 2nd bird.

I think six. The quartering high away and distant battue. I missed 4 of the aways!!!! Couldn't make myself shoot dead at it.

Simon don’t give up on Weston. We started at 9.30 and were done by 11.20. The trick is to start three or four stands round from the clubhouse (in either direction). We dodged a few busy stands, so got a walk, but it can be done. The q for buying cards and the early rush was the worst I’ve ever seen it and I think was caused by the clocks changing. Everybody was there sharp!

WW also, as earlier post went with Bunter, had two horror stands six as per will and on a driven simo 2/8 ? still bit of learning curve with new gun so not too displeased to end on 68, Bunter 69, think a 95 was winning when we left which is top drawer shooting, some superstars still shooting, too 4 hours, weather ? which helped however am too old to be mentally on ones game for such a long time, it is thougha good ground to shoot and will return and look to do so more often

WW for me too, couldn't grind out the straights today and struggled to stay focused whilst waiting, very good shoot finished on a scrappy 82. :aww:

Shot chalk farm today and they have opened up more ground  its now a circular route across a field and through woods. Its much better than before with some good targets and the stands nicely spaced out. I shot 84 which is above my average but I didn't feel that I shot well. But enjoyed it.

Sounds more like an endurance comp,..

Southdown first scrappy 78 shot some of it straight and very well screwed up a couple of stands and dropped a few gimmies by not focusing.

Then on to Court farm where i had not been before, certainly preferred it to Gatton bottom.

Bit scrappy mainly due to having to shoot stands 6-10 mostly by using the Force and Braille as targets were impossible to see in the low sun finished on 77 and that won me the class so that put a smile on my face

Now back to Beirut, amazes me how people with no money can send a large chunk into the sky!

Longridge today, out with chums, was as bit chilly, odd stiff breeze, and some fair old (ohh thats a good / tough bird(s)) target presentations there today will admit made me work hard to keep a 6 in front, yes a few top two inches errors too many, it was though a really enjoyable round, this despite a few too many no birds blighting one or two stands.

Shot with Stew Keen 82 & Bunter who imploded for a 57, my 64 was 2nd to a 75 in C when I left (about 60 cards of all classes in), Matt Turk 89 was winning though the superstars were still shooting / drinking tea so who knows.

Weston wood for me.made a mess of one stand, driven then higher driven that could be turned into a crosser, menu card said second bird was also a standard,it looked high so i gave it a fair chunk of lead, never found it.found out later it was a midi.i probably over cooked it.finished on 89 so happy enough with that.best of all no queues!!!?

Shot Greenfields reg today and what a cracking layout too, good few long crossers, long loopers, long quartering droppers and a very clever long slow Teal. The odd bird was being blanked by good shooters despite being inside 50 yards and easily visible. I shot well but suffered two 7's one of which was on the last stand of left slant Teal followed by fast high long crosser, minced the first 3 pairs only to have the buttoner let the next Teal up virtually before I'd called which I managed to hit but the surprise took its toll on the crosser  , in hindsight I should have glanced back and made her realise but alas on the final pair I suppose trying to rectify the previous pair she only goes and gives me a sloooooww pull  , these things happen and in reality I am experienced enough to not have succumbed but hey 88 was still a good shout on that lot.

A chilly morning up at Horne.  Started really well, dropped one clay on the the first three stands (one of the second birds on Stand 2), then a 5 on the platform which is usually my bogie so I was happy enough.  Continued on only dropping ones and two's and started to think, ooo I'm on for a PB here.  Fatal.  Screwed up the next two stands for a four and a two, before pulling it back together to finish on 76.

Ridiculous that the targets that seem to be causing others trouble (big crosser on 1 and sim pair of crossers on 9) cause me no problems, but I can then go and screw up the fairly straight forward ones.

I missed 5 on stand 9! Nightmare.

I missed 1.  Took the lower slightly faster bird first, slowed the gun slightly after hitting it and it was bang on in the right spot for the second one.  Was fractionally behind the first bird on the second pair for the only miss.

I dropped 6 on Stand 12 and 4 on Stand 10, including two of the battue which were the easiest battue I have ever seen anywhere. I had a strange trigger freeze thing going on, think it was because I was worried about missing.

Stand 12, the following left quartering? Surely not.

My thoughts exactly. Stands 11 and 12 at Horne are usually clays in the bank for me. Any other day I would have been surprised to drop one on that stand.  Trying too hard to take it early and overled it.  Couldn't stop myself from doing it either.

I’m knackered and I have done something to my shoulder but at the back under the shoulder blade so I’m miserable.  I had a tiring weekend.  Out the door 6.45 am to take part in the Intercounties Fitasc which I enjoyed - two good layouts and 2 bad score wise but I learned something from it and I got to shoot a particularly bad hoop again and did absolutely fine having realised the error I made.  It poured with rain the first layout and was breezier than I expected.  It reminded me of what will come winter time.  We then moved on to Dartford for floodlit Sportrap but we were not on until 9pm so very tired and cold but I mustered a bit of determination.  I am glad I tried it but not sure I would do it regularly as it was extremely odd having no baring on lead or even really where your barrels were at times.  I was really aware of the smoke that comes out of your gun and this sometimes messed with taking the second shot.   I have to say though I hit some very good Simo pairs.  Finished on a 64 which I was happy enough with.  Home a time midnight.  Today was Westonwood - lost 6 on my last stand which was up on the platform.  That bar is simply too high for me unless I lean over up on one foot and it pissed me off.  Driven there also took a few from me.  Horne two very bad stands for me both involving teal, everything else I did fairly well the usual one or two away but those two stands wrecked my card and me finished on a 78. I think I’ll go to my grave with “She never conquered teal or driven”.

Eriswell today several fast targets that needed shooting quickly which suits my style, so although I shot 85 it should have been a few more. philip  thorrold  won it on 95.

He went to Horne and did 98! And it wasn’t a doddle.
