You recall Caterham Hamid? I remember my mate coming back from the loo there and saying “That was a bit rural, I’ve just queued up behind two badgers”.I love how the loo remains a medieval concept within the sport.
No I got an 89 at Churchill’s when I was in C. I remember it because I was the only C amid a sea of AA and A shooters on the first page of the scores ?. I just felt very calm and focused today, makes such a difference.Just back from Four Counties. Forecast was cold but it was actually pretty mild and no wind at all which is a first for me shooting there. Unfortunately started badly on stand 1 dropping all of the 2nd bird - realising after I was in front of it. The rest of the round was just scrappy with lots of 1's and 2's dropped. Ended on a 78 which is not terrible but dropping 10 in the first 3 stands I was always playing catch up.
Followed Sian and Tony around. Sian was shooting verywell indeed and put in a cracking card. Is that a new PB?
Well Doug, 74 & 79 ? scores for B Class so please dont be too harsh on yourself, youve shot some very tidy scores with that borrowed gun so that new Rizzini has an act to follow, do tell are those new glasses the Ed Lyons pair youve had made?Did the ‘double’ today of Four Counties and Weston Wood.
Two excuses: Using a borrowed gun and first time using some prescription glasses.
Four Counties had some eye sight tests or edgey clays against wooded background. Overall not a bad card apart from one stand where I dropped all 10. I’d got complacent from rarely encountering a bird I cannot hit (consistency and repeatability being a desperate topic!) so I struggled to change, methodically, to find either of the birds. In hindsight I was above them and quite possibly out in front. It’s a shame as I finished on 74 even after dropping 10 straight so could have been a respectable score.
Then a dash up to Oxford for Weston Wood. Really enjoyable targets apart from the dropper from the target. Struggled to find the right rhythm and timing for that stand. Ended up on 79/100 which isn’t too bad; but, as always, it could have been better by a couple from silly mistakes!
Looking forward to getting the new gun and putting some shells through it over the winter.
Thank you Will. Just had a splendid frame of mind today. I know that feeling too well when your mind is not in the right place. Had too many of those in the last few months. An unsettled day at Four Counties for me. Worst score in a while with 80, which I kind of knew before I started, some days I’m just not in the right frame of mind. It wasn’t their easiest shoot so that didn’t help. Sian, your score was superb, simple as that.
Doug, I used to really struggle at 4C because of the open field stands, where the targets often look further away than they are. You were really out in front on your bad stand.
Oh dear, do sympathise, the trap filling there is always “odd” as the chaps all seem keen to stop half the shoot to top up 3/4 full traps regardless of time of day, we were fairly lucky started around 10.30 and off just before 1. Main road back to Bath was rammed due to the temporary lights, do though envy the walk on beach at end of day ?Luck was not with me yesterday Intention was to do Meadowcroft then meet someone at 4CTC.
Left early to get to Meadowcroft 10 miles away Sat nav shut down for 5 minutes but still got there early, few people there but nobody seemed in a rush so off to a good start straight into the first 3 stands just dropping the odd one.
Then it started, trap broke down up the top and because of placement it stopped 3 or 4 other stand being shot so lost some time there shot another 5 stands no issues skipped couple because of queues.
Got down to the bottom and big queues joined the shortest and then the battery went down and it took a while to sort as they were already trying to sort the B target trap on the teal stand so i walked back up to shoot stand 4.
One person before me and they stop to fill the trap Ok it has to be done seems to take an age the bloke was out into the feild and filled the trap up in half the time the one next to the stand was,he shoots then they stop it again because they want to fill some other traps and they can't with stand 4 running and need to stop 2 other stands who carry on shooting for about 5 minutes after we are stopped.
Walk down to the bottom to the Teal stand and still a massive queue just didn't have time to wait and handed my card in without shooting it.
Saw Wylye who suggested my fingers might be at risk while eating my bap!
So at 11am i have 3 stands stands to shoot and at 12.15 i hadn't managed,my timing impeccably bad managed to put me in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I do think the positioning of the traps at the top could have been better thought out.
Good targets just wasn't my day...Proved by the fact that as soon as i turn onto the main rd i get stuck in traffic.
Wasn't going to make it to 4CTC so gave up, feeling surprisingly calm went home and took the dog for a walk on the beach
Wasn't going to bother as i was in Bath the day before and its a crap drive from Bournemouth, gonna give it a miss for the moment maybe next summer.Oh dear, do sympathise, the trap filling there is always “odd” as the chaps all seem keen to stop half the shoot to top up 3/4 full traps regardless of time of day, we were fairly lucky started around 10.30 and off just before 1. You cant wait until all the traps are empty before you begin to fill them!Oh dear, do sympathise, the trap filling there is always “odd” as the chaps all seem keen to stop half the shoot to top up 3/4 full traps regardless of time of day, we were fairly lucky started around 10.30 and off just before 1. I use contact lenses / and on occasions prescription shooting glasses / have to say the glasses give sharper vision but my scores are better with contacs , the glasses dial out my astigmatism , but my contacs don't as I cant wear torric contact lenses . saving up for innocular implants . or is it intraocular ?Did the ‘double’ today of Four Counties and Weston Wood.

No but batteries going flat less than an hour into the shoot can be easily avoided! You cant wait until all the traps are empty before you begin to fill them!
Indeed, and will add these fellows have not in my experience allowed that to happen, its a thankless job and one I have done the once and have no desire to rush and do so again. You cant wait until all the traps are empty before you begin to fill them!
Cheers Richie. Couple instances of knowing the gun is in the wrong place but still pulling the trigger anyway. Frustrating.Well Doug, 74 & 79 ? scores for B Class so please dont be too harsh on yourself, youve shot some very tidy scores with that borrowed gun so that new Rizzini has an act to follow, do tell are those new glasses the Ed Lyons pair youve had made?
