Sporting Shoots; where- and how was it? (2018)

Essex maters,2 great course of which i did no justice 73 on both and it should have been at least 10 more on each missing some sitters sometimes repetitively.

Still a great day out with great targets and a good squad thoroughly enjoyed though travelling makes it a long day 14 hours door to door.

Rain stayed of till the last 2 stands and only one muddy spot all the way round  :smile:

Thoroughly enjoyed and will be back again next year!

Shot Royal Berkshire Handicap today,this is my second go,first attempt was very poor.it was also a good opportunity to try out some different ammo,i use eley Olympics  but am finding the recoil too harsh just lately.thought I’d try viri vipers,massively impressed with the kills they give in my f3 and although still fairly lively in the recoil department much nicer to than the Olympics.As for my performance,made a complete mess of the compact layout only hit 14/20 which was terrible as it was only the 3rd stand in,thankfully managed to grit my teeth and dig in for 17/20 on grouse sequence.shot ok around the rest of the course finished on 84+6 handicap.always enjoy shooting here but very often struggle to put a good card in.going back Friday with the side by side to make life even more difficult for myself!!got lucky there with it last year.

Yes I am going, the new club house is fantastic and the shooting is in a lovely wooded setting. Targets are normally first class so as you say what’s not to like.

Honesberie Premier League today. Lovely warm weather, but wellies on for the boggy areas after last nights deluge. 

I thought this would be a tough shoot, because Honesberie usually is and the Prem league shoots so far this year have been firm, but this only had one or two testing stands I felt. A good mix of targets, just not very hard mostly. It was 14 stands but not that busy. I think a lot of top folk are in France at the moment..

Anyway, despite a slightly beer battered brain.. I managed to keep it tidy for a 95. Missed 4 targets behind, because they were headed towards the trees and I hesitated a bit. Also one teal because the ref had variable button timing, but my fault really.. Julian Morris did 98 to be leading at 1pm..

Update: 200 entries I believe. Richard Faulds ties with JM on 98. I was equal 6th with many others!

The new clubhouse is amazing. The new concrete roadway is good.15 stands of great targets and the sun was shining,  A good day.

Long day for us Garlands followed by Honesberie and really appreciated the warmer weather particularly when you get home late and just have to put a few things away rather than clean them or dry them out.  Used my Silver Pig Lola as I’ve had too many double discharges from Dora smacking me twice yesterday so she’ll be going off to get it sorted.  Love Lola but she’s different to Dora so a few hiccups today.

I did my first ever registered 100 yesterday at Kingsley Moor, which I enjoyed very much. I'm not going to reach the heights achieved by the good folks on here for at least a couple of years (hopefully), but my aim is to become officially 'C' class this year and try for 'B' class later.

It’s a great journey. Took me two years to get into A class and another six to reach AA!

This year I wanted to do some major comps for the experience so booked onto the English Open and the Worlds. Progress was going well with a new PB and matching it again the next weekend. Then a combination of bad weather and lots of family events on Sundays means I have not shot at all since 11th March which is probably the longest gap I have had since starting registereds. Hoping to do the AGL reg this Friday, Horne Sunday and Churchills next Thursday to get back into the swing of things before the English on May 10th.

I’m missing all those.. I’m going abroad for work, then holiday, so won’t shoot again until the English Open, straight in cold after a three week break. D’oh!

91 at Greenfields which wasn't too far off the pace it seems especially as GD didn't complete his first card owing to a couple of 7's ....

It wasn't a reg shoot so you can do what you like with your card half way round. Many might not realise that most of the Great shots who made their path through the straw balers and charity shoots of 80's-90's shoots would often have four or five re-entries to find problem birds and would often bin a card that had one too many misses early on.

I’ve shot a few registered ESP there which can be fairly testing and they have a Sportrap pool shoot as well 25 birds.  You can also do Skeet and some trap disciplines and they hold Fitasc shoots.  Good facilities with a large eating area and a shop.

I have the morning off work and need to be back for 2pm. So aiming to get to AGL for first cards and hoping ita not crazy busy with everyone want to shoot the last registered before the English Open. I see they have finally stopped free practice on reg comp days. That should help.
