If boxers suffer from ring rust I was suffering from swing rust yesterday. To be expected as first shoot in 7 weeks. Went to Horne. Started off with a straight which was a nice but then got sloppy. Finished on 76 which is not terrible. But hopefully Churchills on Thursday and poss another shoot on Sunday will help before the Open at AGL next Thursday.

It didn’t help that I got cold standing around at the top stands as didn’t expect it to be so chilly. Also the logic of clay shooters amazes me sometimes – especially at Gatton Bottom. They walk past stand after stand that is empty to all congregate at the last two stands. It took me longer to shoot those two than it did the rest of the course.

Skipped Horne yesterday because of the weather forecast and stayed local.  Was bloody freezing, which seems to make my occassional trigger flinch problem significantly worse.  Didn't happen once last weekend when it was lovely and warm, yesterday six times in one round.  Not sure what to do about it, but the fact its worse when it's cold makes me think it might not be entirely mental and that maybe I ought to be looking at getting some tweaks done to the grip on my stock.

Southdown for us too, but it was bloody freezing!  I was wrapped up but it got into your bones and I couldn’t get warm.   By the end of the shoot I was shivering and back muscles couldn’t relax.  Came home and straight to bed with the electric blanket on😊 Targets were excellent and no hold ups so I can’t use the excuse of hanging around either.  Didn’t shoot too far off what I would’ve been happy with but 3 stands of 3 cost me.

Southdown for us too and we did get some hold ups and it was cold.  We skipped a stand because it had broken down so went back to it near the end.  The last stand took forever with a few squads waiting as it continuously gave no birds.  3 hrs to complete the course.  I enjoyed the course albeit I wanted my DT10 instead of my SP1, the targets were good but it didn't feel  like a big competition for some reason that I cannot put my finger on.  Tony picked up a 4th in the sporting and I picked up a 2nd in the STP ladies and a 6th in the ESP ladies.  £145 perching.   STP was a good one with some tricky sim pairs.  Enjoyed the pool shoot too.  Barrow and Highwaymans on Sunday still moaning about wanting my DT10.  Didn't really deserve to win ladies at both I was such a moany git and at Highwaymans threw away three stands.  I need to atone and so will be giving those winnings away to charity.

County wise only do 1,2 & 3 Doug so not only Turkey youll be up against all the counties AAA Sporting boys too🤣, oh and as youre borderline A Sporting, being in C for Sportrap your bagging too 😄😄😄
There's bagging.....and there's bagging! If it's 1, 2, 3 then I shall look forward to writing the facebook post congratulating them.

I only ever shoot the Sportrap at Barbury for the County shoot and it's normally a firm one. Hence the classification.

Do try the mid week offering, they run squads into the evening which helps “work wise” with Owls & Barbury running regular events shots should, one hopes, be in a class more in line with their known shooting ability, well thats my wishful thinking view 😌

I'd love to get to some of the midweek shoots, especially the sportrap as it's very time efficient. Sadly, I've not found a ground/time that works with the schedule. Fully agree with the need to shoot more to get an accurate classification.

Coleys today, once more weather affected, on last rotation it was cold, wet n windy, sunny, wet n windy & cold, hope you get the picture. Me a slow (poor) start, bit miffed when I lost three bunnies, two being more close, very close rockets in truth, did have a few 😊 stands, and despite the conditions had a pleasant day on the clay 😌 top squad, Peter Houghton 95 (shared HG with Sam Usher) Stewpot 79, OldCodger 78 ( big grin) Miss Zea Purnell 76, Smokin Joe Hale 91 and  Willy Hale 77

It was a shory drive home which is now bathed in sunshine, oh to shoot in some warmer weather

Coleys as well for me. Had every type of weather during the shoot, my least favourite being a sharp hail storm!

Few grumbles about the targets this week. 'The Rabbit' being the one talked about the most. Personally I felt I shot it OK and was pleased with my 81 which was good enough for joint 1st in class. Technically second in class but the chap in front went birds only :)

Lovely to see you.  My first registered at Coleys only been to an open day.  I enjoyed the round, second sitting for us and we got the same weather.  One awful stand where I missed 7 - four driven and stupidly the second bird.  Lovely to see my brother who bought himself a gun, love helping spend his money 😂. I think I finished on a 77.  Shot with Lola, getting used to her again.

Well done Doug 💥💥👏

And very nice to see you and Lorrayne, some much needed roses amongst all us old ragged thorns, glad you all enjoyed, trust the drive back home went well? Oh and hope Lorraynes eye is ok

Oh I missed  1 x driven & 3 reports on that stand also

Yes journey was better than we thought showed her the A34 route and we stopped to buy chocolate milkshake and chocolate sweeties. The sun shone on the way back!!  That second bird I was high and in front and although I knew after the first one what I was doing I was like a stuck record until the last one!  The driven he allowed me to shoot on the way back and canted my barrels and got it.

Meadowcroft for a Sportrap, got caught in the traffic 🚗🚛🚌🚌🚗 heading for Badminton and rocked up much much later than planned and had to rush to get myself ready, not ideal at all. Still with unbroken sunshine 🌞 which was very welcome indeed. Fair few happy faces about, MrStones beaming no less, as for the shoot, managed to miss I that I thought I shouldnt 🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰 all 5 rabbits 😳 and hit many that I thought I wouldnt 😊 shot next to a bit of a masterclass from Rich King 98, he was near flawless, me? think it was early 70s as I was bit hangy ony too many times. In all it was a very pleasant day on the clay though, 👍

Now roll on monday at the Ridge & weds being all brave and shooting the English, do say hi, I shall be the tall skinny chap with grey hair

Oakedge was glorious in the sunshine! I only shot the sporttrap ( 4 rounds ) just breaking the new gun in. Love how the kills are back up. The gun definitely works for me.

Traffic  on the M6 was a nightmare but the run back using all the back roads was a hoot!

Went to a local 80 bird shoot today and really enjoyed it. Managed to miss two whole complete final pairs. I think my brain switched off as all the stands were 5 pairs rather than the standard 4. Finished on 70/80 but should have been higher.

Sunday will be Westfield and then Monday at Longridge. I’m not shooting the Open until next Saturday so trying to pack a bit in this week in the run up to it.
