Westley,

I think what you are referring to is a gunstand that most owners have not read the instructions for their cumbersome unstable golf bag.

If a Croots or Albion gunslip is £130 that is tremendous value but still £40 dearer than a Johnshooter !
Albion slips were around the £500 mark when I was looking. Croots started at £220. John Shooter might be okay but I think I got my extra £100 worth of quality in comparison.

Good price! Got a picture?
Yes, I think I should have clarified, mine is a canvas and leather, zip/flap/buckle (with handles and strap) jobbie. I think it's called a Rosedale. But, given the overall length of my gun with the chokes (51") it had to be made specially. I'll dredge up a photo shortly.

The Croots full leather slips start at about £180 or so (no handles, just a sling) like this one (they were in stock when I was looking) :

And this is like the one I have:

Ok nice. I looked at the john shooter website, which does seem very good for slips of this type. My only issue is that it looks a real faff to open the slip, so the constant in and out at an ESP shoot lookes tiresome. The cheaper type of slip with a simple zip is much easier to use. Am I missing something?

I think the gun can be popped in the side via the opened zip without opening the flap/buckle. But, from what I have seen, others just slip the gun in through the top and leave the flap open or just loosely buckled between stands. Never seen any accidents yet, but I have not actually used it yet so you might be right.

However, I do have a tendency to rush and need to slow down a little. So this little "discipline" might actually help me, if that makes sence?

No. I got a Croots slip precisely because I didn't want a top flap. Lots of people have said they wished they'd done the same thing.

Shushh!

(I'm now hoping I'm not going to be one of them!)

So long as it's got the zip as well as the top flap it'll be fine.  Just don't use the flap.

10, 9, 8, 7, 6........................ counting down waiting for someone to ask "then why pay extra for the version with the flap!!?"

But the zip needs to run around the top as well. And the flap will be in the way. I'm starting a Facebook page for the anti flap league. Who is with me brothers and sisters?

Good point, smarty pants.

I'm with you on the flapless campaign brother.

Sounds like monks. We can start the Order of the Flapless

I've been dreading someone chirping about spending the money on extra lessons. :pickeat:     :.:

The Johnshooter one I have seen and handled has a zip up the side , then a flap over the top.

You can open the side zip easily and remove gun. It also has a belt and buckle on the side for extra zip security if needed . If not you just leave it unbuckled. Good tough hard wearing leather  lambswool lining, zip all the way down to facilitate opening fully to dry lining if it gets wet.
