    Honesberie Shooting School

Honesberie no longer run registered shoots due to noise complaints from 'townie incomers' in the local village. However if you want a lesson from a very good tutor, then Nick is your man! He has the scope to put on almost any bird you ask for, and the experience and knowledge to put you right...

'Ackley Improving' a cartridge basically moves the shoulder forward and changes the shoulder angle to 40degrees (typically). The net effect being more case capacity (i.e. more powder) and therefore more bullet velocity. Another 'plus' is that the Ackley case stretches less which in return means...

Nice rifle there Darkside and a very good caliber, I was very tempted to go .260Rem myself a couple of years ago, but a very cheap Sako 75 in 6.5x55 came up for sale so I bought it instead. I just had it re-barrelled into 6.5x55 Ackley in a Border Cut sporter weight, tuned the trigger and...

Spot on! The .243Ackley is a Tikka 595. My others are Sako 75's. Good solid, well built rifles....with no plastic bits.

The tube is still going strong with over 1800 rounds down it, still grouping 1/2 MOA. No signs of firecracking when my gunsmith pal borescoped it at 1500 rounds. I'll start to consider a re-barrel if/when the groups open up to1" or more. I'm a part time 'keeper, and this particular rifle is a...

    Firearms certificate

The information from the lads above is all good. First you need to decide why you want a rifle. i.e. target, vermin control, deerstalking etc Target - You will need to join a club, and you will be limited to shooting at a club. Vermin Control - You will need to have written permission for...

I got to 4010fps with 66gn Bergers in my .243Ackley, before primers started to flatten. Ended up at 3980fps with superb accuracy. Perfect foxing tool!

    Holdenby House Clay Shoot

Absolutely, and it hasn't put us off the shoot, we'll be back next year. One of our team is putting together a polite email to the organisers which hopefully they will take as constructive criticism, and which may make it a little better next year.

You'll be very lucky to get above 2800fps with that weight of bullet out of a .308 Jon. Hopefully your mate had made a mistake on the velocity?

    Holdenby House Clay Shoot

I personally thought it could have been better organised both before and on the day. We heard at least three teams complaining that there were no bacon butties left on arrival, quite a few comments on suspect scoring on the flurry (Only one person button and scoreing). The major complaint that...

Hard Case (Travel Case) for my Gun

I swear by Peli cases and have used them for many years for both my shotguns and rifles. They aren't the cheapest, but coming with a lifetime guarantee they are, as far as I'm concerned, the best you can buy.

    World Sporting, Southdown 25/03/2012

I agree Scuta, it is a brilliant concept which, in my opinion, brings something fresh to a sporting layout. I used to shoot it at Newbold when Mark first started World Sporting. Unfortunately I don't think he got the entries that he needed to make it feasable so it is no longer shot at that...
