Is it possible to overheat by shooting in the sun ? If so , how long would it take ? How would we be affected ?

Dehydration main problem.
Effects your eye sight first. Then further complications after that.
Drank over 4 litres a day (50 targets) when shooting in the sun last. 40 plus degress.

Bryan, using my hairstyle( which is like yours) without wearing a hat to shade the head, after about four hours in direct sunlight, even though you were hydrating with regular liquid intake, you probably would start to feel the effects of heat exhaustion. Symptoms are nausia, tiredness, hot and uncomfortable, irritated and irrational, headache, dizziness , possibly fainting and violently sick.

But if he shot a round WITHOUT you, Sloppy, he'd be fine...

Eyes and concentration go first. Last time out at Gloucester I drank over 3 litres of water on the 4 rounds, felt great, Mrs Fuz only had a few sips during the first round and you could see the drop in performance for the second round.

In the little break between layouts I got her to drink a litre and keep sipping between stations on the third round and by station 4 she was visibly more alert and sharp. Fourth round she was back to as good as she was on the first round :)

Hat, shade if you can find it and Hydrate until you need to wee after every 25

Aha, I thought it was you that mentioned these supplements in another thread but couldnt remember where it was :( where can I get hold of them?

Obviously when we sweat its not just water but salts and minerals we lose too and a nurse friend of mine has always said you need to replace these as well as the water :)

I found the best to be Polase Sport, but you can only get it in Italy. In the Uk you can get this one below. It save me the other week in 45 degrees C in Porto.

If you don't need it you just pee it out..... In extreme heat I take 3 during the day.

I have checked it on 100%ME on the Wada regulations.

I use 2 normal water bottles.......one with a packet mixed in and one plain. If starting to suffer sip from the mix as you would normally.....when starting to feel better...sip from alternate bottles. In great heat they do not last long.

In all seriousness.....in great heat......keep the booze quantity low if your competition is over 2 or more days.....just saying..!!

A few of us had to administer some electrolytes to one of the GB shooters who got dehydrated in Madrid - luckily, one of our number was well prepared. Certainly, I've added some of these sachets to my checklist next time I travel to an event abroad... I was drinking 6 litres of water a day in Madrid, and could still feel the effects of the minerals missing. This is especially true of Type 2 diabetics like myself (as well as carrying too much weight - before some smartipants says it!)

As we see some unusual weather in the UK at the moment - it's well worth thinking about, and good advice from Nicola to stay hydrated properly.
