My Optometrist's Range Rover just blew up going up Telegraph Hill one day on the way home from work - don't think it was worth repairing so scrapped!  Get rid quick Will!

Range rover eh very dated now not changed much since the 70s and only farmers or forestry workers actually need one. Mate of mine bought brand new one a few years ago I had a drive it didn't make me want one put foot down nothing happened but the heated steering wheel was good. Anyway he took it off road as he thought he should and ripped all the side off on a big rock then got stuck in a big puddle up to half way up the door had to be towed out by a jcb he never went off road again the thing was less than a month old at the time. I didn't laugh......... much.

My aunt and her son drove a Range Rover overland from Birmingham to Johannesburg. Took nearly 7 months to do it. The R/R took it all in it's stride albeit being pretty beaten up by the time it got to Jo'burg. They rolled it on its side in North Africa somewhere!

Of course that was in 1972 and Range Rovers were the ultimate off road vehicle not the bloated over complicated chelsea tractors that they are today! :)  A single woman and her son alone in a vehicle in Northern Africa in the 70's was pretty bold going! No flies on her at all!

In the context of this forum, surely "shooting car" means a vehicle that will take a gun and bag in the boot and won't stop in two inches of mud. We are not using it to climb near vertical rock faces or to herd wilderbeast. My RR sport has been fantastic (all round) and I'm only changing it for a new one.

Honda crv????

And it won't break down.

Always had Range Rovers then Disco's for 25 years, knew lots of Land Rover Garages and specialists , visited most whilst broken down .

Bought a Hyundai Santa Fe 4 years ago , changed it last  year for a new model, never met or paid a Hyundai mechanic yet.

Friend bought a top of the Range Vogue ( Autobiography?) Petrol teatime Friday night took delivery , Breakfast time Saturday morning watched it burn to the ground north of Corley Services M6 South.

I went lamping one night shooting rabbits whist standing on the passenger seat and shooting through the sunroof whilst being driven across fields.
