Westonwood and Northampton for us.  I shot very averagely at Westonwood but had to work for my score at Northampton.  It was very cold at Northampton and apart from a couple of stands, everything else was quite tricky.

Stand 9 was by far the coldest with the wind and sleet driving straight into your face, not overly pleasant.

How did you get on with stand 10? I couldn’t find that second crossed off the tower? I’m not a massive fan of 3 pair stands at the best of times but that definitely didn’t give me enough time to see where I was going wrong. That was my last stand so quite possibly it was just the cold affecting me .
Hit one of the second crossers.  Left it later and took it when it started to slow.  Didn't need a huge lead as it was a midi, think I overled when I was trying to take it earlier.  Didn't help that it was constantly no-birding when I was on the stand.

Had a late start for Weston Wood yesterday. The morning was spent on a nice stomp across the fields with the wife and hound before she (wife) jetted off for the week.

Some big scores carded on what was a fair set of clays with nothing extreme. Disappointed myself misreading one stand which hurt an otherwise passable card. Ended on a lack lustre 76.

Podimore, started of really well stand 2  rabbit trap broken 4 people in seen as we saw a brand new one unused a bit later you have to ask why?

Straighted the first stand i shot as it had what was effectively a mini teal which nobody was hitting consistently dropped 5 by halfway and felt right on it.

Really felt like i was going to break the illusive 90,i should have known better!

Then no birds started ruining my rhythm and the rot began, pull, pull, pull and then a broken target, then it seemed nearly every stand for about 4 or 5 i would get one or more apparently he had to reset all the knife edges because they sent the wrong clays. Not to successfully it would seem.

Didn't read one stand right and dropped 3 on there and then stand11!! told it was hard before we got there 45m ish rising crosser 6,8,10,12+ feet  it wanted a lot of lead but no idea how much as i didn't hit 1 started dropping the second bird  through frustration and scored 1!

Spoke to the winner on my way round and he only hit one of them and had no idea why.

Pool shoot loads of no birds and the sun making it impossible to see the C bird an incomer flopping in and never getting out of the shadows because of the tree behind.

Don't now if it was a result of the last shoot or the rugby but seemed very quiet

So started great but soon ruined never mind at least i was out shooting  :D :D

Weston Wood yesterday, first clay shoot since early December as game shooting took over, and the two didn't mix for me personally.

Not disappointed with 80, I thought that anything with an 8 on the front after quite a lay off would have been ok.  Some stuff I didn't give enough lead on, and apart from a couple of moments of not choosing the right method it went alright.

Might take a few shoots to get my game back up to 100%,  just happy to get back in to it.

Barbury today, 50 Reg Sportrap for 11am start, was early, it felt chilly, I did not appreciate how cold I was getting, so much so that on the first layout my hand & trigger finger went numb with cold and I could not feel the trigger, wholly my own fault, not experienced this before but its taught me a clear lesson that my hands are not what they were in resisting cold and I need to protect them. Dropped a few, well many on first layout which I felt I should not have done so, managed to invigorate life into my poor mitts and shot the second layout well so ? in end.

Fair few superstars booked in, dont know any scores.

Despite cold, pleasant day, good squad, good targets at a lovely ground & happy staff, just what a day off shooting should be like.

Oh Barbury are running a summer series of Sportrap shoots, if you can give the ground visit

Brave man shooting today. It's damn chilly!

With yet another midweek shoot of offer i'm at risk of never being able to find a tradesman when needed!

Owls today, rained all the way there, stopped begore I shot only to start for my last two stands.

On tod, did though see lots of friendly faces, shot first half a dozen stands without much of a wait, there was some bigger q’s in the bunded area, the general chin wag did help pass the time, was 😊 bunny having shot Owls as well as I can remember only to have a most rude bump on last two stands, both 5pair simo which I made a real hash of.

The clueless shooting of the simos apart I had a most pleasant day out and hope to repeat same at Gunsite sunday

Horne this morning. Lovely sunshine but the bitterly cold wind in your face made the shade a bit nippy.

Bit frustrated with myself. The tougher stands I shot well - 7 on a really distant incomer and looper for example - only to drop loads on a a couple of soft report pair stands. Finished on a 70.

I managed to hit everything but no consistency and was to many random dropped middle/end pairs. Up on the scaffold prime example - 5 from first 6 then miss both on last pair. That white l-r needed some serious lead. Finished on 71. That 5 pair simo teal end of the first woods was just stupid. Scored 8/10 but was more luck as trimmed a fair few twigs back.

I think being a short arse helped me on that stand, also hit 8.

Gunsite for me today, got caught out on a few stands, quite a few targets that looked like they didn’t need as much lead as they did!!in general i would say a fairly tough shoot, the last stand i shot Sean was apologising as it was RL battue that was 20yds farther out than he’d wanted,it would have been pretty tasty anyway without wind assistance,i dropped 3 of those.finished on 85 so not too bad, just felt a bit tatty in general.very good shoot in my opinion,i really had to dig in today to get the score i did, could easily have been a disaster for me🙈

Gunsite also more than a tad blowy, would have found it a challenge without Mother Natures intervention, still was otherwise nice dry (just got in car as hail roared down) despite two horrendous stands shot with a 😊 think Sam Usher was hg when I left, some AAA still out there was though lots of below par score already in

Roll on the warmer days

Horne for me this morning too,

I didn’t think any of the targets were too challenging today, I misread a few targets it would seem. That teal stand you mention above I even managed a pair with one cartridge ending on 7/10.

Struggled with the white clay off the platform only finally connecting with it on my last pair when I shot it a lot later ended for a 5/8.

Straighted both the on report orange ones in the woods at both ends and then missed silly ones here and there.

Thoroughly disappointed with my shooting today, ending up on a 67.

Many contributing factors to my poor shooting today but generally I wasn’t focussed and I just couldn’t get my head in the game 😞

Nice to meet you this morning, Jamie.  I managed to hit two of the white ones, both by taking them very late.  Could see them well early, but couldn't get on them quick enough.  Through the middle part of their flight when you wanted to take them the dappled shade made them really hard to see.

Likewise it was nice to put a face to the name.

Two of them white ones is good going by my book, horrible target to see!

I lost interest after that stand going back down the hill and subsequently shot shockingly on the stand with the mini!

Never mind there is always next time 😌

Gunsite for us too. A notch or two up on difficulty I thought ,without the intervening wind. Had to work hard for almost every  target. Coldest been on a shooting ground for a good many years. Great shoot though as always.Big thanks to Sean, the ground staff and the refs today. Bitterly cold today.  happy with 85.

Jasper

Eriswell and Highwaymans for us.   Started bright at Eriswell but breezy and cold.  Highwaymans the sky turned grey, tried to sleet and was windy and bitterly cold.  Cannot wait for warm weather.  Enjoyed the shoots, some tricky ones at both.  Should have gone in Ladies at Highwaymans -  would have come 1st instead of joint 4th in class oh well.
